There is a very useful book on the market that was available through the Visitors Center store and I have seen some on e-bay. The book is The Candidate's Guide to the United States Naval Academy (or something similar). It is an excellent guide to the admissions process and is particularly valuable as it is interview driven; ie, the content is based on interviews with members of the Admission Board, RDs, MOC/staff, grads, instructors, etc. It deals with obtaining nominations, pursuing appointments, and plebe year issues among others. You might try to obtain it by going to www.navyonline.com.
BTW, in old-timers' jargon, "gouge" refers to reliable information.
Best wishes to all of you!
