10 years ago today
So on this day exactly 10 yrs ago I boarded a plane after saying goodbye to my parents and went off to the big bad city of New York. After a barbecue I managed to go into NYC with a couple of my newest friends and enjoy the fireworks show that was on display just for us entering plebes (ha, yeah right) The next day I got up bright and early and walked through the doors that the new candidates are dreading and started down a path that would become some of the greatest memories of my life. Well not necessarily Indoc, but recognition, my first ship, going to Asia, going to Africa, and finally graduation. It is hard to believe that I sit here writing this note ten years later while sitting in a hospital taking care of patients. I never realized how fast the two weeks of Indoc would go, much less how the next ten years would be so different than the previous ten.
Best of luck to the newest candidates. Remember to look to each other for help, and for the best piece of advice I ever got: Be a piece of the woodwork. You don't have to be the best, but you definately don't want to be the worst.
