Basic was at airfield and his ride up in the Wings of Blue aircraft was canceled due to lightning. One of the upperclassmen loaned his phone and I got 2 minutes of talk time with my basic! Yea! This evening I thought it would be nice to thank the unknown hero who made both our days. I thought of the "real men of genius" Bud Light commercials (view some on youtube if you need the connection) and I sent this text:
Bud Light presents real men of genius. Today we salute you, Mr. BCT cadre who loans his phone so a basic can call home. Donating your minutes so a parent can hear their son speak live ("Hi Dad!") and so a proud parent can speak live to their son rather than write a letter they won't get for 5 days ("We're proud of you! You can do it!") Yes, sometimes it's the little things in life that make the difference. So crack open a Bud Light (if you're 21) and thank you, Mr. BCT cadre who loans his phone so a basic can call home.
Guess what? A few minutes later I got a reply:
It was a pleasure. And I am not a BCT cadre but a cadet parachute instructor. Thanks for the thank you. I'm cracking a corona right now.
Priceless!
