I don’t believe we have ever featured the phrase “Haiku Advice Challenge” in a SAF thread title. And I have no idea why it poppped into my head to do this.

I invite you to boil down your I-Day and Plebe Summer advice for the plebes-to-be into the haiku poem format below. This is the most basic rule. No rhymes required. There are other variations on content, but this is just a fundamental structure.
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables

Be a kind shipmate.
Look for the good in each day.
Rejoice in salt air.

Note: “Make your momma proud” certainly meets the criteria. All are welcome to post their advice, including any appointees who want to take a shot at reminding themselves of what’s important.

K, I will give it a try:

Plebe Summer starts here
New midshipmen, fresh faces, hope
The Navy awaits

Plebe version:
Hot, sweaty white works.
The detailers in your face.
And it’s just day one.

Parent version:
Where is (s)he, oh where?
There! No, there! No, wrong again.
Waldo, here we go.

Detailer version:
Did I look like this?
Got work to do with these deer
in headlights. “I do!”

Alumni version:
What is going on?
Ain’t the plebe summer I know.
Last real one? Mine.

The poets among us appear! Love this. Thank you.

Need some haiku for us SAF regulars, as well. 😉

Cynical version:
Twenty Seven done.
Same old posts from Twenty Eight.
Use search function, please.

Servant version:
The next class beckons.
New posts. New queries. Let’s go!
The line marches on.

I did not have ‘plebe summer haiku’ on my bingo card….

This is awesome.

This is a thread I can get behind.

Every detailer
Also awaited Barbershop,
Studying Reef Points.

Or

Remembered aroma:
White works and King Hall donut.
Makes old grads feel young.

Or

Severn sunrises.
Three decades like yesterday.
Bounce, 91, bounce.

Cheering on these excellent efforts. Wit, imagery, humor, creativity in abundance.

Though Sister St. John-Cecile, my most memorable elementary school teacher, would be rapping some desks with her wooden ruler on adherence to traditional syllable count, I think Bill the Goat could charm her into a benevolent smile and an A for effort.

Did I mention the prize is a one-year supply of virtual bacon emojis?

For My Daughter

A light heart smiles
A plebe's brearing forsaken
Many Sirs spoken

Chop chop chop chop chop
Chop chop chop chop chop chop chop
All things end chop chop

There once was a man
from Nantucket..........wait? Sorry

Waves so calm,
