I didn't know it as a kid but found out about twelve years ago when our neighbor, Mickey, past away. Her husband was a tail gunner in the Pacific theater during WWII. My DW and I helped her daughter, who was about our age, clean the house. The daughter told us to take anything we wanted. In sorting out some things, I came across a silk Japanese flag with her father's bomber squadron unit on it. It was an obvious wartime souvenir. About three years ago I gave it to a good friend of my son whose father had served as a pilot in the Strategic Air Command. I received a thank you note from the individual who loves military history. He told me he was going to have the flag framed and mounted under glass. My Dad was in the Army Air Corps. Happy Birthday U.S. Air Force!
