My son never got a real interview. He is in his second year at the academy. Not yet. I haven't even gotten a interview request so my chances are looking pretty bleak.
I'm an Academy Admissions Partner, and I have not seen any interview requests for my state at all this year. Perhaps the Admissions Office is handling interviews differently this year. Even in the past, not all applicants were interviewed, so I wouldn't worry about not receiving a request. Not yet. I haven't even gotten a interview request so my chances are looking pretty bleak.
Is there any word on when they are looking to release the first batch of appointments?I'm an Academy Admissions Partner, and I have not seen any interview requests for my state at all this year. Thank you for your wisdom as someone who has walked the path ahead of all of us who are hoping to be Proud USCGA Parents!I'm an Academy Admissions Partner, and I have not seen any interview requests for my state at all this year. It's common for the first wave to come out this week. I'm sort of surprised we haven't seen anyone post yet.Is there any word on when they are looking to release the first batch of appointments?
I don't have any knowledge of release dates. It has varied in past years with the first appointments coming out in late November, but some years not until mid December. There is a lot of new staff in the Admissions Office this year, so that can change things as well. Everyone who applied EA will get some sort of response before Christmas. That response could be any of the following:Is there any word on when they are looking to release the first batch of appointments?
Thanks @ProudMom7 , always appreciate your insight and detail!I don't have any knowledge of release dates. There is a lot of new staff in the Admissions Office this year, so that can change things as well. Everyone who applied EA will get some sort of response before Christmas. That response could be any of the following:
1) Full Appointment offer to CGA
2) Conditional Appointment offer to CGA (needing medical completed or a waiver)
3) Full Appointment offer to CGAS
4) Conditional Appointment offer to CGAS (needing medical completed or a waiver)
5) Denied
6) Deferred to Regular Admissions pool. If you are deferred, do not expect to hear early in the Regular Admissions process. For those that are deferred, it means that Admissions thought you were a good candidate, but they want to see how you compare to those who applied Regular Admissions.
Often applicants who receive an appointment offer to CGA or CGAS will receive a call from their Admissions Officer or the Coach of the team they would be joining BEFORE seeing anything in their Bears Den account.
Good luck to everyone waiting. And remember, you can continue to update your AO and Coach with any significant and relevant new information until you receive a response.
How were you notified that he was medically qualified please? Thanks @ProudMom7 , always appreciate your insight and detail!
This might be a bit of insider information, but our DS found he was medically qualified today (Black Friday deal!?). And we were wondering how the admissions staff works with DoDMERB on those notifications: does the admission staff check the applicant’s medical status in advance or does DoDMERB “push” the applicant’s status to the SA?
It maybe a moot point, but in the (hopeful) event of an appointment, I might be surprised if the applicant had the insight into their medical status that maybe the SA wouldn’t have on hand due to the different systems.
At any rate, this is like a more a note of curiosity on a slow-day-following-giant-meal. Very grateful.
The academy is notified of the DoDMERB results when they are completed and they are added to the applicant's file. If there is a disqualification, then the SA can determine at that point if they want to pursue a medical waiver. They will reach out to the applicant for information needed to support the waiver request. The waiver process is initiated by the SA and determination made by a review process at that academy. It is not unusual to be granted a waiver at one SA and not get one at another SA.Thanks @ProudMom7 , always appreciate your insight and detail!

Thanks for the clarification! The waiver authority for a specific commissioning program may or may not co-located with the program.
You laid it out extremely well. Just a snick of an adjustment. Thanks for the clarification!
Thank you @VAcadetmom and @Capt MJ for the insight. It’s been a journey to understanding and grateful for every bit of info from this community. The academy is notified of the DoDMERB results when they are completed and they are added to the applicant's file. Quite pleased! It was a note on DS’s DoDMERB account. How were you notified that he was medically qualified please?
I've never heard of such a thing. They're not going to chase anyone down for additional info. If anything important is missing, that's just an easy way to weed someone out.Is it true that you get an email a week before your file is set to be reviewed so you can give any last minute info?
I cannot imagine any higher ed institution, SA or not, doing this. It's incumbent on candidates to ensure they're represented fully and honestly, not the institution to pull it from candidates assuming they are irresponsible and/or delinquent. If you have late-breaking details that improve your candidacy, take action.I've never heard of such a thing. They're not going to chase anyone down for additional info. Not to say there isn't some extenuating scenario where it may happen, but not for the general masses.
