Has anyone received a regular decision acceptance notification from VMI yet?

Our DD just received her offer of appointment from VMI today. A beautiful red folder with a letter on one side and her certificate on the other. She's so happy!!! (We are too.)

Congratulations to your DD Zeb. Are you a Virginian or out-of state applicant? My DS got a letter today confirming his participation in the open house overnight visit program in Mid-February, but has still not received any news about his acceptance. I'm hoping DS will hear something one way or another about acceptance before we incur the expense and time off to travel from Texas to Virginia for this visit if you know what I mean.

She is out-of-state, we're from North Carolina. She went to the overnight/open house in April 2012, and sent her application in as soon as VMI began accepting them. I got some good advice from Bruno and Pennak about lodging in Lexington in the thread titled "Lodging Question" on page 11 of this subforum. I tried to put a link to the thread here, but apparently my post count isn't high enough.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you and your DS!

DS out of state, March 2012 overnight, application submitted 9/1/12, still waiting.

Still no word from VMI. This is the only school DS has not heard back from. He's been accepted to all the other schools he's applied to. This is DS's first choice school, even though he'll be paying out-of-state tuition possibly (Praying for AROTC scholarship). We'll just keep praying. Congrats to you DD Zeb. Let me know if your DS hears anything KarenH. We'll be paying for ya'll too. God is in control! Amen

DS got his Red letter a month or so ago. Very beautiful !!! Now awaiting ROTC's edcision as VMI and Citadel are his 2 top schools. Congrats to all those accepted.

In the same boat as you, Bryson. The overnight clinched it for him, he loved it and hasn't waivered. Could not let him apply early action due to $. Must wait for all options to be on the table. Hang in...you too, WeinerDog!

Congratulations to your DS KarenH! Still nothing in the mail here in Texas, and DS is getting a little anxious.

I have been accepted, but I have not received my envelope yet. I actually found out through the postview account. If you have been accepted, then when you log onto your postview account and then click prospectus menu and then documents, it will list about 9 more documents that you need to fill out. This list will include things like "300 dollar deposit" "body fat results" "final HS transcript" "Statement of decision" etc. :thumb:

DS received his acceptance to VMI today. He's been accepted to all three colleges he applied to (VMI, Citadel, North Georgia). I'm so proud of him. We toured all three schools last month from Texas and DS was very impressed with VMI. His mother and I were also impressed with VMI's open house overnight program. Their admissions staff and the entire faculty/student body put on a great program for prospective cadets and the parents. They laid out everything about VMI very clearly to the prospective cadets so they can make an informed decision about whether or not this is the right school for them. The other two colleges also had very good overnight/campus tour programs. It really depends on which one appeals to you the most. DS has decided on VMI. He told his mom "with great risk comes great reward". Thanks to everyone on this site. The amount of information and support shown to the fine young men and women who choose to attend all of these great military colleges is impressive.

Bryson- congratulations to your son!. Now - for practical advice- make sure that you make reservations pretty soon for Parents weekend as the hotels in and around Lexington will fill up far earlier than you would believe. :thumb:
Good luck to all of the newly accepted "Rats", "Rooks", "Knobs", "Mugs" "Fish" to be - exciting times are ahead for you (and your parents)!

Bryson - congrats to you and your DS...and to all who have received these wonderful opportunities. My DS was much like yours. Many opportunities but he fell in love with VMI after his visit. I would joke about not wasting money on a hat until he was sure. As the weekend wrapped up, he simply said "buy the hat".

My DS graduated in 2012. It was a bit of "love-hate" at the beginning but I can honestly say that he very quickly grew to love the Institute and he remains very proud to be a BR and a graduate. I am sure your DS will be the same....especially after he gets the ring!

I actually received my regular decision acceptance in January. And I gotta say, it is the coolest acceptance letter I have ever seen.

kewebbjr, if you've decided to attend VMI, you and my DS will be BR's this coming Fall. He'll be in Alfa or Foxtrot because of his size we're told. We've sent in everything (except his final HS transcript) and bought all his required gear for Rat year already. We received his financial aid award letter two days ago. I was very surprised (and happy) by the amount of scholarship money VMI has offered DS. As an out of state student his/our portion of his tuition will be less than any public university state tuition DS would have paid here in Texas. If he receives an Army ROTC scholarship or decides to pursue football at VMI, his future student debt could be even less. He told me the other day he's anxious to see how he does during rat year. He's a beast physically, and will do very well in ROTC, but he's nervous about the academics because of stories some of the current 4th class men told him during his overnight visit. I just tell him to be prepared to put 10x more time into his studies that he's done in HS. It's college first & foremost, and making good grades is how you graduate in four years, no matter how well you do at the other stuff. I know he'll do his best at everything though. It's part of his competitive character to do as well or better than his peers, probably like most of the young men and women who choose to pursue a college experience as challenging as VMI. It's been a long ride over the past year and a half just to get to this point, and we've got the next four years on this roller coaster ride to look forward to. Lucky for me, I've got two more teenage sons to go through this with again in the near future. I hope the younger two will follow their older brothers footsteps and look for ways to serve their country and pursue becoming principled leaders of character in whatever path the choose in life as well. Thanks again to everyone on this site for your valuable advice.
