Has anyone received results from the January Board

Hey everyone, so I wasn't selected for the January board and am looking towards the March one. My question is, what would be some additional things that I could upload to the file upload section (if allowed, and aside from what they require) that would be a good idea? For the last board, it didn't occur to me to upload my University admissions and engineering school acceptance letter from October, which I realized I should have done afterwards. Silly me. Would there be anything else I should upload? Thank you.
Letters of recommendation are always good. Maybe 3 or 4 from a respectable professional (a JROTC instructor for example). Also, documentation detailing how much community service you have done in total for your major programs is a plus.
The board doesn't have time to read letters- 2 min max per file. Would anyone put in a bad letter if rec? They all say the same thing.

It also doesn't hurt either. Yes, they must look at each file quickly but that doesn't mean they won't glance over a letter of recommendation and at least see who wrote it. The mistake some people make on their applications is leaving too many things out that could actually help them.

Yes, my daughter received hers last Wednesday. She received a full four year scholarship to her top pick school.

Keep in mind if the scholarship is used for tuition then it is tax free... if used for R&B its taxable to the student.
Just to clarify ... I thought the scholarship was for either tuition, or for room and board. I didn't think it paid for both (?).

Yes. That’s correct. Pick one or the other.

Get into Northwestern, have the Army pay for tuition and you pick up the tab for room and board.

Get into University of Arkansas (as an in-state student), have the Army pay room and board (I think capped at $5000/semester) and you pick up the tab for tuition.

Some schools will give you some room and board money though if you attend with an AROTC scholarship.

Hey guys, so as of right now, I have begun my enlistment process (haven't signed dotted lime, just working on doing ASVAB and going to MEPS) with my states National Guard, and I was wondering if I got the an offer from the March board, do you think I should accept the scholarship, or just keep going Nat Guard? Or is this decision more based off of what I want? Both sides have their benefits, such as with the scholarship, I wouldn't miss a semester and I could go right through college, but with National Guard I would still get a 100% tuition waiver for my states university, and I would accumulate 4 years time in service by the time I commission and I may be able to use Basic Training/ AIT for college credits. Thoughts?

All of the January Board decisions have gone out. Be careful about adding things without talking to your ROO or PMS where you want to go. They have access to your file and can advise better than here. The March Board usually issues the most Scholarships because a whole lot of the candidates who were awarded Scholarships in Oct and Jan get accepted to a SA and accept that appointment freeing up additional ROTC Scholarships.

And to try and clarify the Room and Board vs Tuition thing.....some schools (not all by any means, especially high tuition schools) do offer Room and Board in addition to tuition costs. Depends on the school and the Battallion and what level of cooperation they have. There was a pretty inclusive list here someplace that listed a lot of the bigger schools and what benefits they offered.

This question has been beaten to death over several threads. The near-universal advice is to do normal ROTC (i.e. no ARNG enlistment, no SMP) unless you have an overwhelmingly critical need to do both.

SMP is a program designed more for existing ARNG and USAR members-- not for kids straight out of HS. It will almost always make college harder, ROTC harder, result in less overall pay (stipend is tax free-- drill pay is not), and will usually lengthen your college time, costing you money for every day you commission late.

Additionally, the "enlisted experience" gained via SMP is not comparable to normal enlisted experience-- for a variety of reasons. Read the other recent SMP and ROTC/Reserves threads to see why.

Lastly, to get O-1E pay, you must serve 4 years ACTIVE DUTY time in service. I.e. 1,460 active military days. There is no way you will get this as a traditional Guardsman/Reservist attending college full-time. One day less than 1460, and no O-1E.

My advice-- wait to enlist until you find out you did not get picked up during the March board. Then think long and hard about it.

If you can find a state school with low tuition, and it has ROTC that you want, try and do your Freshman year on your own and volunteer for ROTC (not contracted), then if you do well your PMS can and likely will put you in for a 3yr on campus ROTC Scholarship.

Has anyone heard back from the 2nd January board?
My recruiter said there was a board on 1/15 and also on 1/28.
Anyone received results from the 28th or know when they will come out?

This is an Army ROTC thread, by the looks of your username it seems you're talking about NROTC?

I just read through this complete thread and it brought back memories. For those of you that did to receive an offer, my DD and I both know how that feels. After the second board is when she got really motivated to lock in her best plan B, in case same news on the 3rd board. She also realized that if she did get a 3rd board offer it would most likely be a 3 year, so she started devising her best NEW plan A, if she did get a 3 year. We even paid the deposit and housing deposit on her plan B making sure that it wasn’t legally binding if she decided not to go there. She did receive a 3 year AD on the 3rd board, went to the most expensive school (they waive room and board all 4 years for all scholarship winners) and is now a MS3 and never looked back. She did get upgraded to a 3.5, but even at her school and brigade that is more rare now.

There is hope, don’t give up, just get those alternative plans of where the best choice is without a scholarship to be able to still enroll in ROTC and compete for a campus based and good luck to all!
