Herndon climb change

Wow! Didn't see that one coming!

Plebe-no-more a week earlier. ;)

We are actually going on a mini-vacation to Dewey starting Thursday afternoon. I'm glad they didn't make it on Thursday or Friday!

I have seen it twice. It's really only exciting the first time, when your Plebe has skin in the game.

Interested in the sea trials change, now spread kinda-sorta over 3 days?

Something just doesn't want me to see Herndon Climb. When my firstie was a plebe, I had everything arranged to go watch and then it got covid-ed. Now, I was excited because I was going to get to see it during Commissioning. I guess not.
We were planning to see it during CW also.

The beginning is awesome. The end is awesome. The in-between…well…

Problem is, it’s impossible to know how long it’ll take. Last year, saw the upperclassmen greasing up Herndon. Then went to meet DD for some pickleball on the courts behind Mother B. We heard the starting gun and the opening cheer. Then not much until we heard a raucous release. We played a lot of pickleball in between. 😉

I've only seen it once..up close and in person.. It took days to get the lard out of my eyes --

Pickleball was a good idea, but my recommendation is to watch the first 5 minutes, then go have a couple beers at McGarvey's, then go back and watch the end. It usually takes awhile for the adrenaline to wear off and the Plebes start to get organized and work together. (Every class I know has gone in with "the plan" to take down Herndon, and that plan usually disintegrates with the first contact with lard)

We had time to visit the Mid Store, grab snacks, drinks and still see an extra hour or two of attempts to uncap and then cap the top. Bring a good chair and possibly a meal, there's no telling how long it will be.

Class of 2023 was only 65 minutes as I recall. We had lawn chairs, a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks for the Plebes.
If we had left the yard for a brew, we would have missed it!

Two Mids, never attended Herndon climb. I did watch on TV 🧗‍♀️

Just curious is anyone has a guess how this will impact the few days the upperclassman usually get off around this time (is that period called something special?)? Asking due to mid-sib college graduation and if wondering if mid has any chance of getting leave to attend. Will ask him when 6 weeks exams are over but wondering...

To be fair, they were two years older and wiser.

I meant class of 2022!
