I have noticed that the USNA board has a thread like this and I think USMA needs one too. There is already a USMA Class of 2028 Appointment self-updating thread. The intent is to keep the appointment list from getting inundated with anything other than appointment updates and congratulations.

USMA 2028 hopefuls, parents, and interested parties, put your speculating and comments here to keep the appointment thread on course and climbing with '28 appointments. Here's wishing only the very best to all candidates in their quest for an appointment!

Hello to all you patiently waiting West Point hopefuls! My DS is a candidate for the class of '28. No one outside of our family understands the application process or the absolute rollercoaster ride of emotions. I'm hoping we can play the waiting game together and cheer these candidates on.

We are a homeschool family. DS is currently 3Q with a senate and congressional nom for WP. He has applied to two other SA's, but WP is his #1 choice.

Please introduce yourselves and/or your candidates. Those that have already been appointed to the class of '28 are welcome too.

Same here though my DS attends a HS Military Academy. My DS is the first one in both sides of the family to apply to the 3 SAs (AFA, Navy, West Point) on his own. My DS is '28 applicant and have received ranked alternate noms to the 3 SAs from our congressman although he doesn't know exactly his rank on his slate. Thus, our best bet is the NWL and somehow get an appointment to any SA. He has already secured his plan B which is AFROTC Type 1 HSSP during the Oct board and got few admissions already from civilian colleges. But here we are still hoping that he gets appointment to one of the 3 SAs.

This positive development indicates that the top 150 candidates from NWL, as per the law, will secure appointments. Based on Class of 2027 data with 1788 candidates at 3Q + Nom, considering a yield rate of 78%-80%, around 1538 appointments are anticipated. Despite 250 candidates remaining, the inclusion of USMAPS school and civil prep school data from 2026 leaves only 59 candidates from the original 1788. If you find yourself towards the end of the NWL, reaching out to your field officer or RC for a ROTC scholarship is advisable. Even if you rank last, there are options like prep schools or ROTC for the following year, providing a chance to enhance your qualifications. Patience is key in this waiting game. Good luck!

Hi everyone!
My DS is a class of '28 candidate. He is the first in our family to apply to a SA. On January 9th he received a call from our Congressman (Texas) informing him that he was his #1 candidate. As of now., all he has pending is DODMERB, everything else is complete. We hope to hear something soon! The waiting is INSAAANEEEE!!!

Can you learn where you are currently rank on the NWL?

That's great news!! Hopefully your wait is over soon.

Waiting for my ROTC scholarship rn hoping and praying for West Point, neurotically checking my email About 15 times a day lol

Our family & friends are starting to pick up on the fact that the SA application process and waiting period is a WILD roller coaster. We get super stoked on a step and they ask does that mean he is in and we explain "NO! but it is progress" LOL. The SA application process is definitely not for the weak.

Cons! My DS is from Texas too. He had the same situation. Soon after he got principal nomination from MOC. His wavier came done in a week. Then after a month, appointment came. Hope your DS getting the same track and our DS can meet at West Point. A waiting game.

Yes, same here. Lol. I didn't announce his nominations to anyone we know because I knew they would assume that meant that he was appointed. We were super excited and celebrated though. Then the rollercoaster went back down and the wait continues.

Totally agree! The whole process is so complicated that most of people don’t know what every step mean. Rollercoaster up and done until you get pretty numb. I did tons of research and become expert in service academy application. All I can conclusion is if you can get to 3 Q and Nom, very good shape. No too worry. Everyone.

Over here in PA, checkin my email and mailbox 20 times a day for something from my Congressman. I ot a 3q letter in November. This has been the longest months of my life
I’m in the opposite boat, CFA still hasn’t been reviewed and it’s been stressing me out, alr got my nom thankfully

Here in New Jersey and DS has been 3Q'ed since September, on the NWL, and has a nomination from both his Congressman and the JROTC route. Waiting is by far the hardest part! He received a 4 year AROTC scholarship which is somewhat reassuring to me, but USMA is the goal. Good luck to all and be proud of how far you've all come!

Its funny because I am over analyzing everything and DS is as cool as a cucumber. His BGO officer emailed asking how things were going and if he had heard anything from the academy. I am thinking... what should he hear, do you know anything we don't, is that a good sign, should we expect to hear something. From reviewing posts, military families are used to this..... straight civilian and extreme planner here - quite the change.

Lol, exactly the same here. That's why I started this thread so I can discuss and analyze with others. My DS is on "cruise control". He just wants to wait and not think or talk about it until he hears something. He has never been on these forums and I read everything I can. My husband asks occasionally, but he is just in wait mode as well too. I think I just know how bad DS wants it and so my mom heart wants it for him. I am a "researcher" by nature, so that's how I deal with this stress.

My son also got a 3Q letter in October. He has not received a NWL letter after he got his noms in January. Did your DS get two separate notifications, one for 3Q and one for NWL?
