Hopeful USMA Class of 2028 : a place to play the waiting game together.

Lol, exactly the same here. That's why I started this thread so I can discuss and analyze with others. My DS is on "cruise control". He just wants to wait and not think or talk about it until he hears something. He has never been on these forums and I read everything I can. My husband asks occasionally, but he is just in wait mode as well too. I think I just know how bad DS wants it and so my mom heart wants it for him. I am a "researcher" by nature, so that's how I deal with this stress.
Same here! DS doesn't read the forums and I'm on them countless times a day. He won't tell anyone when he knows any updates because doesn't want to be disappointed, and shows little emotion when we move onto the next step of this process. But I can tell since having a son that that's how he operates, while I tell every family member every little detail.

My son also got a 3Q letter in October. He has not received a NWL letter after he got his noms in January. Did your DS get two separate notifications, one for 3Q and one for NWL?
He was told from our state FFR he was file complete and they were reviewing his file, but the letter for NWL came weeks after that. The one letter we received states both.

The letters depend on your region, from anecdotal experiences and what I have read. Each region sends out the same basic letters but with their own wording. For example in my region no one that I know of got 3Q letters but everyone got letters once they are put on the NWL. From my understanding if you are 3Qed and have a MOC nomination then you are placed on the NWL. So your DS should be on it. The only time you would be 3Q and not on the NWL is if you had a nomination that wasn’t a MOC like ROTC. Again I believe all this to be true but I can’t know with a hundred percent currently so feel free to correct me if I said something incorrect.

My DS only had the JROTC nom at the time and he was placed on NWL. But I agree, I’m sure each region does it differently.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense.

Can totally relate- we are the same..... except Hubby is well..... lets say.... apprehensive of him going military.

Our DS recieved SLE, LOE/LOA Sept., interviewed MOC 12/9, recieved MOC nom 1/12 no appointment yet. This is just for USMA not to mention the other SA's, plan B-Z, maintaining club/varsity sports and seventh semester grades. That 11% acceptance rate is exaggerated, its more like 3%. Then your a plebe. Alpha is Alpha. Sheep or Sheep Dog? Neither, Wolf. Wolf don't get fed they hunt. a dogs bite is 700 psi and a wolfs is 1500 psi. The Army awaits you.

I have noticed that the USNA board has a thread like this and I think USMA needs one too. There is already a USMA Class of 2028 Appointment self-updating thread. The intent is to keep the appointment list from getting inundated with anything other than appointment updates and congratulations.

USMA 2028 hopefuls, parents, and interested parties, put your speculating and comments here to keep the appointment thread on course and climbing with '28 appointments. Here's wishing only the very best to all candidates in their quest for an appointment!
I got a MOC nom + senator nom (I live in Texas), currently 3Q (I believe since like October) + 2 Nom and just waiting on the NWL. I find myself spamming the refresh button on my email and browsing on this form, even in class... It feels so weird having nothing to do for USMA when the past few months it felt like I was constantly doing something.

You and me both!!!

Hello, FL mom of an applicant (DS, enlisted Army) with an LOA. I think he's awaiting qualifying the med part. I say "think" because my DS started this journey on his own as he's active duty in the Army already, so he is handling everything on his own. It's weird being completely hands off in this process after last year. My daughter is a plebe at USMMA (class of 2027) and we went through the application/nomination process for USNA and USMMA together and now, after being more involved with my daughter, I'm just getting updates from DS on occasion. He is stationed VERY far away. ;) To be honest, if you had asked me a year ago if we'd be at this point I wouldn't have imagined it. DS was insistent on enlisting in the army out of HS and has had quite a successful experience all leading to an opportunity to go to USMA. He just has to get this med stuff squared away and we shall see what comes of this LOA. I am hopeful and waiting and excited to possibly be a part of the USMA family. I was in the Army (ROTC, U. of Pittsburgh 96) back in the day and served a few years and will be able to relate if he becomes and officer, but this USMA path is new to me. And exciting! Best wishes to hopeful applicants. I'm cheering you all on!

Wow! What an exciting path he has taken to get to this point. Congratulations on the LOA!! I can't wait to hear when when he is appointed, keep us updated please :)

You have LoA and CFA and Medical all qualified? If yes, no worry. Finger cross.

It takes longer time than what you think. Your MOC just get in 1/12. The committee meet and review and give out the appointment, which takes a month. So be patient. You will get it in one month as my experience.

Here in California. My DD is a candidate for the class of '28. We - the parents who knew nothing about SAs until DD expressed her interest in USNA and West Point to us (it was towards the middle of her sophomore year, I still remember). Since then, we’ve been learning so much through her and this forum.

In July, she got LOAs, and has been 3Q'ed in October for both USNA and West Point. After her overnight visit at WP in October, she made her decision - West Point is her first choice. As of today, she is still waiting for a nomination. Our local MOC has some issues with their office, so no interview going on. She was fortunate enough to have an interview with our senator on Dec 2nd but still no words from our senator yet.
DD is pretty calm. Her mama is the opposite. It’s so hard to stay calm when it is a pressure situation, and time-sensitive at this moment.

If she has LOa, no worry. Keep contact your field officer or RC, they have many ways to find you a nomination source if you have LOA. MOC or senator will always give you one just because you have LOA. Just make sure you pass CFA and medical. I remember West Point superintendent also has the right to nominate too.

Hoping she secures that nom soon. Congratulations to all of her accomplishments!

Keep in mind there are ALWAYS people who have an LOA that don't get a nom and therefore no appointment. Don't count on the academy finding you one. Apply to all nom sources. Don't count on being given one either; some MOC staff can even be dismissive of an LOA, probably due to a lack of understanding, but it does happen.

So DS had an awesome CFA at USNA CVW in November. He requested to have it sent to USNA, but they never processed it. FFR told him to just retake, which he did last Thursday. Unfortunately it was after being in a 3 day swim meet the weekend prior & sick before that, so not great but not terrible. FFR said everything was green in his portal & looked good on Sunday. Yesterday, he gets a letter that says they want him to retake it and will "watch closely" and work with admissions. I thought this was pass/fail & if FFR said it was passed, why would it get kicked back?
...just when we thought the finish line was close...another side quest.
