Hopeful USMA Class of 2028 : a place to play the waiting game together.

This worked, thank you. Unfortunately, he was turned down. On to a four year AROTC scholarship at the University of Illinois engineering program! Thankful for a solid plan B and he will look at working on his application and reapplying next year.
Ah drat. I'm sad to read this but excited for him and what his future holds at University of Illinois! What a great plan B!

Very sorry to hear, congratulations on the AROTC scholarship though!

Finally some news! DS got the 3Q NWL letter today. He barely made the deadline because he didn't think he would get noms to 2 academies in our competitive area & USNA never transferred his CFA, so he had to take it again. I know from the forum that everyone goes through the NWL & it isn't a guaranteed appointment. But at this stage, I don't think they would adding more people to the NWL if they were just going to cut them, right?

I wonder the same thing? Does anyone know of instances when someone was added to the NWL at this point and NOT received an appointment? Of course know it can happen, just wondering how likely that would be in actuality?

My DS was added to the NWL two weeks before he got turned down unfortunately. They told him his district was extremely competitive and that is the only reason he didn't get in this year. He was 3Q and fully qualified.

Oh darn! Thanks for sharing. I know your son has a great plan set up, though!

So sorry to hear, but did your son not receive a nomination? If he did there is still hope for him for the remaining 150 spots open that don't require a MOC slate based on his WCS, unless WP told you otherwise.

He received a senate nom and a congressional nom. He got a status letter in his portal a week ago that he was turned down from WP.

Which district? Did he apply other SA?
IL Dist 12. Not normally a competitive district, but it was this year. I have heard that this WP class is more competitive than usual. My son's application wasn't "water walker" status, but it was strong enough to get a senate nom in a large state and above average for the class profile. He is still waiting to hear from USAFA and USNA.

It is hard to get senate nomination. Hope he get good news from the other academy.

We're in IL as well with a 3Q, but non "water walker" as well. A senate nomination is impressive, you should be so proud of him.

Thank you! I hope your child gets good news soon!!
We visited the engineering program at the University of Illinois yesterday where he has a 4 year AROTC scholarship. He loved it and also loved the fighting Illini battalion. He has a spring in his step after being turned down by WP a week ago. I am so thankful!

So I recently became a fully qualified candidate, and I today received a phone call from the senator who nominated me congratulating me on my appointment. Is it common for the senator/congressman to tell you before the Academy officially tells you of an acceptance?

Yes, it is common. Academies give 72 hours for the MoC to call you before they put the appointment in your portal.

Yes it's common and congratulations! If you don't see it updated on your portal, you should within the next week. Then look for the BFE in the mail within the next week or so.
