How are the communal bathrooms in USAFA?

college students tend to not keep a very clean bathroom.

What color socks should I bring with me to wear while I'm in the bathroom? ;) Do you recommend I shower with my socks on?

Color is your preference, however, they must be gripper socks if you choose to shower with them on!

Wow..kind of stumbled on this one. A couple thoughts:

1) I think it was John F. Kennedy who made (or it was attributed him) a famous quote about the Navy, commenting about how you had to brush your teeth while your buddy was using the toilet a few feet away. We have come a long way since the 40's.

2) I am willing to bet communal bathrooms are a whole lot cleaner at USAFA than they are a State U. Also, I am sure that Service Academies in general are far less 'woke' than other colleges, and personal privacy is respected (at least to some degree; some things aren't practical in the field).

3) I can recall visiting my daughters dorm (at an East Coast , liberal arts school) a few years ago, and I had two thoughts: 1) the bathrooms were GROSS , particularly on Sunday AM (and I am not a particularly squeamish type); and 2) it was a very strange feeling using the bathroom (even with the stall door closed), when young women were present.

There’s probably a bathroom closest to your room that will become your “normal” bathroom.
1. They are not co-ed.

2. You are not assigned to a specific bathroom. The bathrooms are evenly spaced throughout the dorm. There’s probably a bathroom closest to your room that will become your “normal” bathroom.

3. There are contractors that clean the bathrooms throughout the week. Cadets are expected to keep them in general good order, but are not cleaning toilets, sinks, or showers. They can get a little messy over the weekends.

4. They are open 24/7.

5. Sorry, I don’t have any pictures.

Um, what exactly does that mean?

A cadet could go to any bathroom in the entire building. If they are a freshman, then they could go to any bathroom within the part of the building that is designated to be their squadron. For any dorm room in the building, there is a bathroom that is closer than any other bathroom. Under normal circumstances, the closest bathroom to a cadet's room is likely the bathroom that the cadet would most often frequent. It is their normal bathroom.

Twenty six posts and the OP has disappeared.

Does the Air Force really call the toilet and shower facility bathroom?

Yes.

The OP liked the post that answered their question. They are not obligated to reply to anyone.

I didn’t notice the Like. Understand they’re not obligated to reply to anyone. Thanks for the answer to the bathroom question.

And I was told they installed "totos" last year. I even googled what's that.. But after seeing the price of the models, I guess that's not true

I have been hesitant to weigh into this topic but after 20 responses it is time to provide perspective. Marines in boot camp or OCS have NO privacy. None. Marines onboard ship have little privacy (communal showers) and in the field.... slit trenches and other realities apply. Basically, nature calls and everyone answers with as much modesty as the situation provides. Not a big deal in the scheme of things.

As a doolie/freshman/4 dig, you are limited to the restrooms within your squad (my squad has two restrooms for each gender). I don't think you would want to traverse through squads in a robe anyways haha. Women's restrooms usually have 2 stalls and 4 showers compared to the men's 4-6 stalls and six showers (at least in my squad). I have never had any issues with the restrooms being overcrowded...either way, people shower pretty quickly here.
The showers are separated by walls similar to those of a bathroom stall so you still somewhat have your privacy. Whether or not there are curtains depends on the squad
This is a surprise to me because USNA Mids have their own showers and sinks and only share the toilets. I wonder why the difference?

My DS attends an SMC and has shower set up similar to what has been described at most SA's. What little modesty he ever possessed...gone. During holidays I was in my bathroom getting ready for my day and saw a flash of white a** thinking it was my DH and then the fog cleared from my mirror and I realized it is was kid.

The heads on my first ship had no stalls. The aft head had commodes facing each other. We were a close crew.

The head at Camp Wilson 29 Palms is also without stalls. That was in 96 though. I flew to Cali last summer to help my son move from Pendleton to the Stumps. He drove me up to Camp Wilson and the raggity A-frames with exposed nails (I have a scalp scar to prove that), doors that won't close, and leaky roofs have been replaced with these luxurious living accommodations.wilson.jpg

We left 29 Palms in 87 when my dad got orders to return to San Diego. I always loved that base.

I went to a CAX, now ITX, in 96 and the weather wasn't too bad. Camp Wilson and the hospital was all I saw then. I got a better look last summer and kind of like it as well. But, a temp of 112 with 30 knot winds makes the face feel like it's peeling off. It got a lot cooler as autumn arrived and this winter has been downright cold according to my son. He's in the field, desert, this week and the highs will be in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Not too bad.

ahhh memories. I was on a Joint Deployment exercise “Gallant Eagle” in 1982 in 29 Palms. It was April. It snowed on us!

I was on a double CAX starting in January. It was 80s and sometimes 90s in the day and 20s and 30s at night. We had our medical tent set up in the middle of Wilson and had a torrential storm one night. I had the spot for my cot nearest the above mentioned door that wouldn't close. I got sand blasted just laying there so I got up and went to the above mentioned head to get my bearings and figure out if I needed to do anything. One of my HM2s walked in wearing flak and Kevlar with goggles. He looked like a life size sand cookie. He had commandeered a HumV and we decided to drive around checking on the watch standers at the armory, ASP, etc. The storm had subsided by the time the sun came up and we saw that the damage was extensive. The wind and rain leveled the tent and flooded lots of gear. None of us slept that night. We had an early morning convoy up the Delta corridor and the assigned corpsmen left with that while the rest of us started cleaning up.

I'm new to this idea of communal bathrooms, and from relatives in other universities I have heard bad things about them.

1. Are they co-ed?

2. Are you assigned to a specific bathroom?
2.5. How many people are assigned to one bathroom?

3. Do the fine cadets of USAFA keep the bathrooms clean? (From what I have heard, this is a no for other universities.)

4. Are they open 24/7 all the time?

5. Can someone PM me or post a picture of how these bathrooms look?
(I live way too far for a tour so the internet is my only resort until I am 100% sure I'm going to USAFA.)
(I understand if this isn't allowed.)

thank
You man did u ever get into USAFA ?
