How does USNA notify you of appointment?

@justdoit19 Good to know! (Although I have read of one candidate who received a TWE on the portal but was waitlisted a few days later ... I understand now that this is considered a "unicorn") One more question ... I've seen others on this forum already get offers for NAPS. At one point do people get waitlisted? Does this only happen after April 15?

Waitlists may occur near the very end of the cycle (could be May or even June), with just a handful of puzzle pieces left to go to complete the class puzzle. Perhaps an already-placed piece falls out due to a changed mind, late injury/illness or some other reason, and Admissions turns to its tiny list to offer an appointment to someone who was just a gnat’s eyelash off of being made an offer at the “normal time.” I suspect there is no set size to the waitlist; it’s prudent managing of the class structure to have some alternates ready to ask if needed.

This has been going on a long time. Back in the 20th C, DH had already declined a USMA appointment and was on a waitlist as an alternate. He got called about a week or so before I-Day and was given 24 hours to accept or decline. He accepted on the spot and had to go into overdrive to get everything done. I remember his mother saying his dad took the day off work next day to drive down to USNA from Philly and back to pick up the packet of forms. No portals…no FedEx…

Put waitlist, title only search, into the search function and you can see how it’s played out in years past. There is usually some sort of ‘waitlist’ thread every year. And yes, it’s towards the end of the cycle. When things are getting finalized for the class.

As CaptMJ explained, it’s different than a big ole national waitlist, where the top xx number come off, according to WCS, like I believe USMA uses.

Candidates will be TWE’ed, offered an appointment, NAPS/PREP, or waitlisted. Idk about getting a TWE, then a waitlist. That’s not the ‘normal’ progression, but I suppose it occasionally happens. Perhaps a situation where a waitlisted candidate wasn’t needed, and then they were. I sure wouldn’t complain!!

Hang in there. Every day that passes, is one day closer to knowing!

Noob here! What does TWE stand for?
