How likely will son get kicked out for conduct/aptitude issues?

He would laugh and relate stories about his own escapades.
Not to divert the train here but my closest friend/USNA Varsity Team Captain and eventual best man at my wedding (1.0) had two
Class A's while at USNA (two black Ns).
He retired as a flag officer.

Yes, we laugh about OUR escapades now.

I wonder what John McCain would think about a SA student with behavioral issues?

This is not an uncommon theme....over the years , history has shown that many graduates that were kind of hellions and non-conformists go on to successful military careers, particularly during the wartime. Sometimes the ability to think and act outside of the box is a good thing,

(PS -- I am not encouraging current Midshipman/Cadets or Junior Officers to push the envelope...the current zero mistake culture can turn what used to be a temporary hiccup into a career killer now).

Hello all,

I would like to know objectively the chances my non-freshman son would be able to stay at the Air Force Academy with a failed conduct/aptitude probation notice.

My son was placed on conduct/aptitude probation for a repeat category 2 offense for cursing like a sailor(wrong person overheard), which was upgraded to a category 3 due to it being a repeat category 2, which came with a Form 10 with 50 demerits 25/25 tours and confinements with an LOR. This made him a 4-star cadet due to being on academic and athletic probation concurently within the same semester.

His AOC failed his probation due to him wearing OCPs on a Blues day, missing a few morning formations and warfighter briefs, and coming off cynical during his SCRB. His AOC is arguing for disenrollment for a pattern of misconduct and failing to adapt to a military lifestyle, with the G-AOC agreeing with his findings, meaning that my son will have to meet the commandant.

However, what my son has going for him is that he got off both academic and athletic probation within that semester. He garnered alot of character letters from friends, teachers, and officers. He met all the deadlines for journals/meetings, and has the backing of his assigned mentor who likes him alot and believes that he can become an officer.

I know my son can be a bit of a knucklehead at times, but I'm inclined to believe that my son won't get kicked out because his offenses weren't heinous (non-alcohol/sexual/honor). I would like to hear what you all think. Thank you for your time.

I have a friend in my squadron who is going through nearly the exact same thing except the group AOC sided on retaining him. He met with Gen Marks a couple days ago and was told yesterday that Marks recommended for disenrollment.

My son's roommate was disenrolled for a multitude of "minor" things. Not one big thing but a pattern of skirting the rules. Unable to adapt to the military environment.

Could you give an example of what the "minor" violations are and how many approximately it took to disenroll a cadet?

The OP only posted that one time and profile shows they returned 10 days later. If they aren't active in the discussion, I would be curious to know if the original post was factual or someone's idea of a joke?

I would imagine it was a distraught parent looking for reassurance that his/her son will be okay and, hopefully, able to stay at USAFA. I'm not sure they got the positive answers they were looking for. If the OP never came back to read the replies, maybe they can help someone in the future.

I am curious @T-37IP, how long the process took for the roommate? DS's squadronmate is in a similar position (has had military adjustment issues since the beginning) and I'm wondering what the timeline looks like.

It played out over two years, with the "final" straw last spring and disenrolled just before the semester began. Won't get too specific to not out a specific cadet, just largely unable to follow the rules the first time. Finally, an Honor violation of sorts (not cheating, but ran afoul of one of the department's standards), which as a one-off wouldn't have been an issue, but combined with past problems and an unwillingness to own his behaviors, they had enough. My son watched his honor board and said it was like a slow-motion execution.

That makes sense. This is has been going on a little more than a year cadet is a 26er). I do feel like USAFA gives an adequate amount of time and chances for cadets to adjust. This cadet seems to be on a similar trajectory with not being able to follow small rules even after several chances. Nothing earth-shattering but just things that should be easy. I think that academics might be the final straw for this cadet.

This I have noticed is not unusual when it’s a tough question followed by tough advice. People will comeback they will read. But it might be the last you hear from them,

Best of luck to the OP
