My DD received notification of her appointment in early Nov, then a few days later they walked it back as she needed a medical waiver. She emailed in the waiver to the woman who contacted her, resent it 4 weeks later and emailed her admissions counselor last week. She has not received any confirmation or communication from anyone regarding this. The waiver was for orthodontics, and her orthodontist (her father) filled it out and she is no longer in invisalign. She wants to make sure everything is good to go and receive her package! Is this normal wait time or should she contact someone else?

DoDMERB can be a very stressful process and can also be very busy at this time of year. When DoDMERB requested an orthopedic information sheet from me, I sent it to my orthodontist who signed it and then I sent it to my technician. It took around four days for the information to update in my portal along with a medical qualification to USNA and USAFA. Seeing as your DD has an appointment in hand along with a nomination I assume, then you should not be too stressed out seeing as orthodontics isn’t a huge medical concern.

P.S. My technician never responded to me, the information was just updated in my portal. Congratulations on the appointment!

I am confused on more than one point, here.

1. You use the term "waiver", but you describe something more akin to a "remedial" requested by DoDMERB (which often requires some sort of information follow-up by the candidate - or doctor, by EMail or USPS). Waivers are issued by the USNA and I'm pretty confident that candidates don't actually see those waivers, but are rather just notified as to whether they receive one or not.

2. You write that she wants to "make sure everything is good to go and receive her package". To what "package" do you refer?
Has she already received an Offer of Appointment? If that is the case, don't worry about it. The information has been sent. It will update in the Candidate Information System ("Portal") in due time.

I would suggest your DD call DODMERB and speak to her contact. I'd definitely ask if it's okay that her father filled out the waiver. Might be apples and oranges but family members can't do the CFA's even if they are NCO's, PE teachers, etc. Does your DH have a partner that might be able to fill out the waiver?

Are you certain she received an appointment in November and not just a nomination? What nomination did she have prior to November? Presidential?

She did receive an appointment but received an email a few days later saying we need this paper filled out by orthodontist. I was referring to the snail mail info/binder that she will get, that she can hold in her hand and make it real!

Ah, okay. Please don't stress about this. It will happen. The records just have to catch up. She will "hear" via the portal first, and then receive a "BFE" about 7-10 days later.

If you stress about it, she will stress about it. Relax, Mom. It's a sure thing at this point. :)

Plebes simply cannot show up at I-Day wearing braces of any kind. They may have them during their 4 years at USNA, as long as they are removed by the time they commission (in 2023 in her case).

Her father is the orthodontist that has treated her so there shouldn't be an issue.

I agree with you that there shouldn't be an issue but, as you know, the military can seem illogical at times with rules and regulations (my DH is a flight surgeon). They may view her DF's waiver/remedial pw as biased, as DF has a personal gain in the situation. Her paperwork is probably just on military time. I would still have her call DODMERB. My DS's physical went into review and from my experience, they are actually very helpful but only when calling, no results through email.

My guess is that the USNA braces issue has nothing to do with DoDMERB at this point, because they (Invisalign braces) will be OFF by the time the candidate reports for I-Day.

If she WAS continuing on-going treatment after I-Day, she would need an Orthodontist Transfer Patient In Active Treatment Form (after having received a waiver for the DoDMERB disqualification).

Well almost 3 months later we have received our reply!! For a recap, DD is #8 on appointment list, a few days after her phone call she received an email stating they wanted a form filled out by her orthodontist stating she will not be under ortho care come May. Her orthodontist, also her dad, filled it out and she emailed it right back. No word, no confirmation, more emails sent to this woman's email looking for confirmation that she received it went on answered. She tried emailing her Academic counselor, who told her to contact Dodmerb's which she did and no answer. She tried calling DODMERBS and low and behold-"oh that woman? Yeah she hasn't worked here for some time and we didn't realize no one took over her emails. SO if you have not heard back from Dodmerb's about forms you sent in and your last name begins with a letter in the first third of the alphabet, maybe that's the reason!!!
