How many are at the academy

Not that I’m aware of. But if your congressperson is holding interviews/applications they must have at least one spot open! It is also important to remember that 150 applicants who did not win the senators “primary” nomination get in through the national pool.
 
Only USAFA/RRS and your MOC would know that answer.

In my older son's pursuit I worked hard to find that answer. Some MOC's publicize their nominations and their appointments. If you can find that information, it does provide an insight to their charges.
Conversely, enjoy the anticipation as I am with my younger son's pursuit.
 
How might it work if your congressman has only one spot available but two candidates in his/her district with LOA's?
 
From what I have been told, ANY nomination is valid for a loa, so if there was two loas on a slate they would both receive appointments. However, only one would be charged to the senator, the other would be charged to the superintendent or something of the like. The academy knows who they want, and they have been known to “find” nominations and space for people they desire. In the end it is up to the admissions board to work out the complicated puzzle of who gets charged to who and how everyone gets in.

Or neither LOA could be charged to that MOC. There is flexibility and it all gets sorted out.
