The SAs’ summer programs are a lot about outreach to underrepresent segments — and that includes geographic segments. I don’t know where NYC falls on the scale. But put it in contrast to “SA hotbeds” such as Northern Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, i.e. places in close proximity to military installations and/or heavy federal government presence.
In the same way that those areas send a disproportionately large number of people to SAs, there are areas that send less than their “fair share.” If NYC fits that bill, then you may have an edge on others.
