How to take approved items to I-Day

You know that pull-cart that all new plebes get on I-Day? The one that elicits jokes and giggles from other SAs? (Even I’ll admit that the sight of plebes pulling their newly gained gear on wheels is a bit, um, “less than.”)

Well, turns out that pull-cart is a gift that keeps on giving. The mids get to keep them, so there was DD using hers to haul stuff from her car to her room upon arriving at TBS. And then doing it again as TBS concluded, when she had to move from one building to another. Suddenly, she became the most popular 2LT in the vicinity, as other Marines lined up to borrow her cart. It didn’t seem so “less than” anymore. 😉

Work smarter. Not harder.

We get a pull cart?

My daughter brought her own socks and wasn’t allowed to wear them anyway. They came home with us at PPW. She did however lose a bunch of her issued socks during Hell-O night sock wars. She ended up with men’s size large. Considering she wears a size 5 in women’s, she ended up having to buy some at the Midstore.

What do I fill under DOD: on my MRG I-day form? Google just tells me it means the Department of defense lol.

I am a recruited track athlete. Should I bring my spikes for track practices on I-day?

Check with your coach. Many have a team/parent meet and greet the night before. And you bring your sports gear, then.

Congrats!!

(BTW…you won’t have official practices during plebe summer)

DS "lost" his last yea during Plebe year. He said probably occurred in one of the moves during the year. He said it just took up space in the room anyways.

It sounds like clothes wise the only thing we need to even consider bringing are compression shorts and underwear.

Issued underwear are "White Jockey Style Briefs"

If we brought White Boxer briefs could we wear these? I assume the color must be white but not sure about style.

Also looks like compression shorts must be Black or Navy Blue.

I remember my plebe was super nervous to bring extra underwear because it wasn't specifically mentioned on the PTR list--compression shorts were listed, but not extra underwear. He didn't know if wearing the white cotton underwear, while being drenched with sweat, was a requirement for part of the suffering of Plebe Summer. He must have put those 7 extra pairs of performance type underwear in and out of his backpack five times as he packed for I-Day. His were black in color and looked similar to his compression shorts, just a bit shorter. In the end, he didn't get yelled at for the extra undies and was happy to inform us on his first phone call that there were no "undie checks"! He was VERY grateful he brought the extra performance underwear and it's great to see people on this forum encouraging it--it would have saved my DS a lot of anxiety to hear this information in advance. DS did mention at least one pair of white performance underwear would have been nice because they are supposed to wear white underwear with their white plebe summer parade uniform because the darker underwear can show through.

Flesh color (hard to find for guys) or light grey actually works better with summer whites

Should wallet be in shorts back pocket or in a ziploc big in the bigger bag?

I especially ask since I plan to have my SS card in my wallet and didn't know if I would need it at some point throughout processing where I might not have my bags.

My assumption is that anything in your pockets is going to be whisked away with civilian clothes after changing in a less then calm environment.

Thanks

Mine put wallet in her small cinch bag she took BUT her SS card was in her paperwork folder. Also in the cinch bag was phone with charger in a zip lock with name on it. For girls feel free to bring more sports bras, compression shirts you love and underwear of your choice. Mine was very happy to have all.

Think strategically about “underwear of your choice” and white uniforms and what you want the world to see, as well as what can survive industrial laundering over the summer.

Once the ac year arrives, women can figure out what underwear items work best but still meet their personal preferences. And beige colors don’t show with white uniforms.
