Hello -- this is my first post ever. My son is at 2014 indoc as I write this. We sent him with a small group of no. calif. kids and a few parents who were able to go and show them the ropes, etc. So we did not drop him off "at the gate" so to speak. But, he indicated on the "last phone call" that he is coughing and congested (probably the plane flight) Anyway -- I know I am a typical worried mom but just wondered if being sick this first week will be a setback kind of problem -- we have heard stories about how hard it is to get through these first weeks. He is pretty tough, Eagle scout, many high adventure trips, well-traveled, but a mom worries. Hard to let go of them I guess. I have read lots of the posts here and some of you are great to read -- helps me a lot with how things work there. We have never been there nor had our son. His dream was USNA but he did not get in, so here we are. We hope it is a great experience for him and leads him to a great career. He wants either Marine Corps or Navy -- flight school and engineering, perhaps a career in the end. Only the next four years will tell. Let the adventures begin.
