INDOC Parent Schedule?

I am curious how long parents stick around when dropping kids off at INDOC. Do parents stick around for a bit-- or is it a quick hug and see them at parents' weekend? For context, I am planning the flight back to the west coast after dropping DD at USMMA.

Super helpful. Thanks!
After you say goodbye to your Plebe Candidate, in addition to the briefing and lunch muster, you can meet other parents, try to get a glimpse of your PC, and there's an opportunity to buy various pieces of USMMA merchandise from the regional parent organizations.

Once the luncheon is over, the parents are asked to leave campus.

Anyone know how long the swim is (from the attachment by Barky01)?

Doesn't matter, you don't have to know how to swim to go to KP. I couldn't swim when I got there, couple other guys couldn't either. We all made it through graduation.

@Poirot74 the following was taken directly from the current KP catalog..
Non-Swimmers
It is recommended applicants learn to swim before entering the Academy. Fourth classmen must demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards using two basic strokes and 15 minutes of flotation. This requirement must be fulfilled prior to a Midshipman’s first shipboard training period.

My dad is a USMMA graduate. Because he is an alumni could he theoretically stay on campus to watch the start of INDOC while the rest of the parents are going to have their lunch? I am not saying I want him there (I don't) I was just curious if he could.

In swim class we had to swim a 200 or 250 in a certain amount of time. There was a 45 minute swim somewhere too.

But rest assured, swimming will not be the reason you don't make it at KP.

"Asked to leave the campus" is a polite way of putting it. Leave, crawl through the traffic on the Throgs Neck and GW Bridges, and wait for that 5, exactly 5, minute call 2 weeks hence. Do not HELICOPTER.

Oh no my dad is not a helicopter parent, He is one to laugh if you fall down. I was just curious of the possibility, trust me I don't want him there. The less I stick out the better.

Is it bad that my wife and I are planning to say goodby at the airport, vs flying out there with him? I heard that once he signs in at 7a, you don't see him again until Parents weekend. We would make sure he understands exactly where to go when landing at LGA, then once in the cab, he can sit back and relax to the hotel. We are planning to fly out for Parent's weekend.

We did not accompany either of our two plebe candidates to INDOC. There will be parents who try to make you feel guilty for not accompanying them, but don't. Your DS will have plenty to worry about when he reports without worrying about seeing mom (or dad) crying. Make sure there will be no problems with the hotel because of his age. Say goodbye at the airport and wait that long nine days for that first short phone call the second Sunday of INDOC. You have done a great job raising him. Time to give him a hug, tell him once more how proud you are of him, then let him go. And for you parents who are accompanying your kid to INDOC, please do not make a scene. Everyone will be watching, and if you draw attention to your kid, you will only make INDOC harder for him/her.

No I wouldn't say this is bad. If you can swing it, then it is a nice thing to do, but a trip to NY can be a an expensive production and parents weekend is a better gig.

I suppose it comes down to parental philosophy, but we too dropped off our two plebe candidates at the airport, and sent them cross country to INDOC. USMMA attendance is nothing if not the time to fledge. We've tried to inculcate independence and maturity in our 9, and after all that led finally to an appointment, the solo trip and the walk through the gates is just part of the process. Unless you happen to be in the neighborhood, wave good bye from home, and wait for the call. And plan to visit for Acceptance Day.

Arrive early to campus, parking is difficult due to limited spaces for guests.
You will have plently of time to stand in line with your son/daughter until they go through matriculation. Good time to calm their nerves.
You will get to see them run out of the back of the gym to get their haircuts.
There will be a tent for you to have lunch provided by the alumni association.
You will get to a briefing by the Admiral explaining what happens next in the process.
You will get to see your son/daughter in a PT uniform in a formation where they wave goodbye.
Then you are done. The school has 'got this'. Go home and wait for your first letters/phone call.
