I don't think it will improve your chances of admission for USNA, but may improve your chances of getting a nomination + interviews since you can talk about WHY you want to attend USNA and use your INSPIRE experience to explain it. According to previous threads when I looked information up when I found out about the program, 600 applied and roughly 80 got in.The email says it's an invitation for highly qualified candidates, but is this being sent to everyone who applied? I haven’t received an LOA yet, so if I attend this event, will it increase my chances of admission?
When I applied, the application question was only to "Describe a personal experience you have had which you feel has contributed to your own character development and integrity." While there, my mom was told that in the presentations that it would be alright to reuse what I had wrote in the INSPIRE application on the USNA application so that's what I did.The questions for Inspire are the same essay questions as for the USNA application. Did you give the same answers?
What kind of activities did you do while at INSPIRE? I also got an invite today. What are some differences compared to CVW if you know?I don't think it will improve your chances of admission for USNA, but may improve your chances of getting a nomination + interviews since you can talk about WHY you want to attend USNA and use your INSPIRE experience to explain it. I went in the spring this year as a junior so if you have any questions let me know.
I would say it varies for each person. I was paired with a MIDN 3/c (most if not everyone was with a plebe) so I was with him in his classes (he is a Cyber major). Unfortunately because of that pairing, the weekend I went was also the weekend before Sea Trials and he volunteered to help test? I don't really know the word but he was involved with planning. I will say that the experience was wonderful and cemented my desire towards USNA. Every one of his company mates (I'm not really sure of the right word) showed me around and answered any questions I had, in fact I met a MIDN 2/c in the same company at the time that went to a similar high school that I go to.What kind of activities did you do while at INSPIRE? Is she a junior in HS?Thanks for posting this question. My daughter got an email today requesting her to register for the opportunity to be selected. ;-)
She attended summer seminar so she has some idea of what the USNA would be like. The Inspire program, with the campus being full of students, would lend a different experience.
Sorry for the delay, she is a senior. Is she a junior in HS?
My applicant received an invite to Inspire. No application was involved. Learning more as they learn more.My understanding of Inspire and CVW, are that the actual experience you will receive, paired with a current Midshipman, will be the same (or very similar). The logistics of getting there and back, is different (underwritten by the Alumni Association) and how that experience is brought to the candidate (outreach). Additionally, my understanding is that Inspire requires an application to the program, upon invite. A CVW doesn’t require an application. If invited, you can go.

My opinion (just as a Plebe mom), is that every opportunity your student has to visit and meet other candidates has a benefit. Visiting and talking to the current mids really gave my kid the boost to power through the long slog of the admissions process, it cemented his desire to attend a SA, and in the end helped him choose between appointments from WP and USNA. He also had some detailers this summer who were mids he had met and kept in touch with since Inspire, and he said it was nice to see a familiar face during Plebe Summer (even if its a detailer who is dropping you).Dang, we just returned from CVW and also just got the Inspire invite. Worth missing more school and work?!
Thanks for the info. My kid didn't follow through with the Inspire invite since she did CVW, has LOA, and NA was her top choice. But now, she just got invited for a similar experience with the AFA. She has only seen the campus from the website so this one is hard to turn down.My opinion (just as a Plebe mom), is that every opportunity your student has to visit and meet other candidates has a benefit. As a mom, Inspire weekend really gave me a better understanding of the military commitment, and I was super impressed by all the other type a moms and dads I met there. The kicker for me was the talk to the parents by then-supe Adm. Buck, after which I was ready to sign away all my kids to the Navy (just kidding, a little). NA staff puts on a great event.
That said, I don't think its worth moving mountains, and if taking time off work/school/sports for that particular weekend doesn't work well for your family, It's not the be all end all.
EDITED TO ADD: It was very nice to have expenses covered, but after it was all said and done, I would have paid for our airfare to avoid the 3-stop flight that they booked us on between BWI and PDX.![]()
Yes!!!Dang, we just returned from CVW and also just got the Inspire invite. Worth missing more school and work?!
