DS has recieved an appointment from USMA but wants to attend USNA...has there ever been any transfer from USMA to USNA? Recieved a phone call from USNA admissions for the VP nomination to make sure wanted to come... is this routine? This waiting on the mail for the BFE is a killer.

No transfers into any of the Academies -- you have to start fresh, even those with 1,2 or 3 years of college under their belts. A few very well-qualified cadets from USMA attend USNA on a semester-long exchange, and fewer cross-commission from USMA into the Navy or from USNA into the Army after graduating -- if they can find someone to swap services with them; there have only been 1 or 2 of these a year.

Congratulations to your son on the offer of the VP nomination!

No, no transfers. He got the gold offer. Why wait on bronze? :)

If you're not 100% sold on any SA, don't go there. Seriously.

No inter-SA transfers. I suppose some folks leave SA A and start over at SA B but it's VERY, VERY rare.

Not sure what the call re the VP nom means.

Have your DS think long and hard about USMA. It's a GREAT school and he and you should be extremely proud to have been asked to join the Long Grey Line. However, if he has serious doubts, don't do it.

If USNA doesn't work out and it's still his dream, consider reapplying.

This is sort of related, so I will share. I thought I saw a video here or on the news or somewhere, where a cadet at the USAFA transferred to the USMA. He was a football player and had a family tradition at USMA. I think it was after his first year?

The cadet didn't transfer, in the traditional sense of the word. He started over, going through Cadet Basic Training. He also lost a year of eligibility.
