Is there any hope at all?

Completed applicant here for USNA. I have also received a nomination from my MOC. My DoDMERB however says I am disqualified for partial color deficiency so I am trying for a waiver. With that being said, is there any point in me completing my NROTC application and ROTC one? I want to serve, but no one seems to want me because I am color deficient .... it’s just really aggravating how something so small possibly DQs me from being able to serve. Any advice or has anyone been in this boat before?

The naval services are tougher on this one because the nature of red/green playing a huge role on water and aviation safety. I know USMA does not require a color deficiency waiver. Not sure about Army ROTC, but I am sure someone will chime in (although I am guessing one isn’t required). What you think is a small issue, is not in the Navy. I know you think there are many other jobs you can still do and that is true, but it’s a number game. They only allow so many in the pipeline because they know it’s an automatic DQ to being an unrestricted line officer. Those numbers grow during the commissioning process due to many factors, therefore the number allowed in is limited. USNA does issue a very limited number of waivers for this, so it’s not impossible. It’s your decision to complete the app or not. I would rather them tell me no then eliminate myself.

Definitely encourage the OP to file an Army ROTC application. I cannot swear to the colorblindness issue, but I am confident that they are more lenient than Navy.

Waivers are granted by the commissioning authority, so NROTC could issue a waiver when USNA would not. I'd complete the application and also try AROTC, and/or switch to NROTC Marine Option which won't have the came color issues.
