My DD received an ISR NROTC scholarship from her local Navy Recruiting commander in early January. She was told that they needed to forward the paperwork for final approval and she is awaiting that final confirmation. I am curious to know if anyone is going through this same waiting process and if anyone knows when these typically come to recipients?

My son received his ISR NROTC Scholarship award in mid October 2019. He didn’t get the official award notification with paperwork until mid December. I would hope it may process more quickly for you as we’re getting close to college decision day.

The process: After the NRD Commander selects an applicant for an ISR, the application still has to be forwarded to the NSTC (Naval Service Training Command) folks in Pensacola, FL for review. This includes both the initial review that all applications get (for application completeness - AFA, LORs, SAT/ACT scores received, transcripts, etc.), but the application will also still be presented at a board. This board review is not like for 'normal' applications, but just a quick review - final set of eyes - to ensure the applicant met minimum program entrance requirements. I hope that makes sense.

My recommendation: Send an email to this address - pnsc_nrotc_applications@navy.mil (source link: https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/contact.html). DD can let them know she was an ISR recipient from NRD xxx, and that she's inquiring if her application is still pending board review.

Very helpful. Thank you!

Similar experience here 3 years ago. DS awarded ISR in September. Didn't get official word until late November. Think the waiting was more stressful on me than him.

My DS went through this process back in the Fall. He found out at the same time the other applicants found out; I believe it was the first or second board. We were told, however, the ISR board consists of different board members. It appears all results are released together. None of this is 'definitive', simply the experience my DS had. Hope this helps!

I don't believe it is a different board, just a different process, based on what @Go Dores! posted above and other past information. They are also not released at the same time. Past years have had candidates receiving them at different times. Different recruiting districts run the ISR award process differently, so they would submit their awards at different times. In any case, confirmation should be coming soon.

My DS was told he was being selected for ISR during his NROTC interview which took place in the fall of senior year. He was notified of his award in February of the following year.

Hmmm, okay. I know for my DS he found out the 'official' results from the board the same day other board decisions were released. Another post said their DS found out at the interview which is also what happened with my DS. Per his recruiter, they changed a couple things in the ISR process just this past Fall and the ISR's have an additional stop and per recruiter goes to Pensacola but reviewed by a specific ISR board. Who knows, just glad DS received an ISR and nomination for NROTC scholarship:groupwave:

My daughter is currently a 2024 Plebe at West Point and is loving it. She took each option seriously - USMA, USAFA, and A&M Navy ROTC. Her ultimate decision was based on the rich history of WP, the number of degrees offered and the unparalleled leadership training she would receive. I’m so proud of her and excited to be along for the ride.
