I'm about to start my junior year at Wake Forest University. I know that I'll have to complete my classes at a different university.

Am I too late?

Anyone?

I was planning on giving a recruiter/ROTC cadre a call tomorrow. I'm just a bit anxious to get more information.

One, your post was confusing.

I am a jr., but I'll have to complete my classes at another university.
I am assuming classes = LLAB, not academics.

Two different things.

The issue you have is you need SFT to become a POC. They do send cadets the summer of their JR. yr., rising SR., but you are not in AFROTC now, and their evaluation period will only be about 4 -5 months.
Why did you wait this long to join?

Please understand my position is not antagonistic at all, but why should I support you oppose to a cadet that has been in AFROTC for 2 yrs when it comes to SFT?

My name is on the line. My action may impact the morale within the det.
What is it that you have, that my cadets don't have?

Honestly, I have seen this as a parent through my ADAF friends and their kids. This has always been in their blood, and now when their college career is over the hump, they either want a guaranteed job, or they want to join to serve.

You are asking the CoC and the cadre to give you a chance over the cadet that walked in 2010. Showed up for every PT, at every LLAB since 9/2010.

I am not saying you shouldn't go for it. I think you should, because ROTC and AFA does not mean they will be great officers. I think you need to prove why you and not the cadet that didn't get SFT with the same grad date?

You also need to address how deep you have investigated AF AD. Is this about a job after graduation?

Do you understand ROTC grads may wait up to 9 mos before AD? No paycheck, no insurance? Bust school; not college AF? Heck, do you understand rated and non-rated boards as an AFROTC cadet?

They own you for 4 yrs AD, this is not corporate USA, it is 24/7/365. They tell you to go to SKORE (not a msp. So Korea is SKORE) for a yr., you go. Minot, Why not, Freezin is the reason, you go! Alamogordo, Hell No Alamogordo, Del Rio...Hell Rio. Those are in the US.

There is a lot of bad along with the good.

I am not trying to be antagonistic. I am trying to make sure you are willing to serve in any career field at any base for at least 4 yrs on a good day. Don't go down the rabbit hole because the economy stinks, and the AF is not in the fight today.

Go because if they give you SP over Intel and deploy you from Eilson AFB, AK at Xmas you are okay with it.

Those ads with you can be stationed at Langley, Eglin, Ramstein, Aviano, Elmendorf and Hickham as an O1 are marketing tools. Eglin and beautiful beaches, sign me up! Talk to the cadre about what reality is for your AFSC. Rated...none of them will be on the table for yrs! Hell Rio, Columbus, Enid, Goldsboro, Fayetteville, Cannon, and Mt. Home will be. OBTW, rated officers need non-rated, Intel to complete their mission, along with weather, and every base has maintenance, SP, PAO, FAO, MSSQ.

Life as an AF officer.
