Hello, I’m aware a bible is allowed for BCT, but I also keep a journal with me to write notes from what I read/reflect on the day. Is this allowed, or will it be taken away? Thank you!

As long as it’s not too much to carry it’ll definitely be allowed. Just remember that there’s a time and a place for everything and the only free time you might have on a daily basis will be at night where you’ll have to sacrifice some sleep in order to write letters or journal. I didn’t have any friends who brought a previous journal, because of the nature of BCT and how dirty things could get. You might not want to bring a journal with you everywhere you go. However I knew a lot of friends that were able to buy a journal at the C-Store and used that to document their days. There’ll be some discretionary time here and there during the training day, but that might be better used studying or getting to know your fellow basics. Good luck!

I definitely journaled but I brought a small notepad for it. I recommend this for easy storage and it won't be taken away.

You should be able to, but you will be issued a composition notebook on I-Day for this exact purpose.

Yes. My C1C journaled a lot his first summer. He filled three journals.

I always journaled after we got back to our rooms after taps, so you should be allowed to certainly. Our cadre even suggested it to us during resiliency time as well.
