Just granted waiver, but no LOA

So this weekend my status changed in DODmerb to Waiver Granted and I now have a checkmark by medical examination in the USNA portal. I have not received an LOA but I have 2 nominations and my academics/test scores qualify me. Has anyone ever had this happen and not get an appointment? Does this mean I will get an appointment as I am thinking they wouldn't waste time with a waiver if they were not interested. Any insight would be great.

There is simply no way to know, excruciating as that is.

You are likely in the same position as others with strong records, passed CFA, nominations, medically qualified or have a waiver…and waiting.

You can assume USNA considers you competitive, or they wouldn’t have spent the time on the waiver. There are always more fully qualified applicants than there are seats. Do your best to blank your mind - strenuous PT always helps - and prepare to be overjoyed by good news or spurred to steely resolve to execute your alternate plan if bad news.

Be sure you have a professional voicemail on your phone and plan to answer unknown numbers in case an elected official is calling you. They are given a period of time after decisions are made, if they choose to notify candidates.

It’s a puzzle with 1000+ pieces, being carefully assembled. At least you know you are in the box of pieces that could fit in the puzzle.

Thanks! Just trying to figure all of this out, which is difficult as everyone's situation is so different!

It’s a difficult time. If all works out, in 3.5 months, you’ll be out of your home, thereafter to return as a visitor for at least the next 9 years. Go ask a parent if there is a project you can do for/with them. Trust me when I say they have their own anxieties about seeing you get ready to fly from the nest. A gift of time and conversation during a shared project is a generous way to keep your mind off you.

Thanks for the advice. I think every time one of my friends announces where their next step I grow more anxious! I am so ready!

As the parent of one who waited. And waited. And waited….it is excruciating. Waited until the April deadline. Accepted a waitlist placement. Accepted further waitlist funnels. And was offered later in May. So it can be a while before you know a “for sure’!

The best advice is to put this to the back of your mind, know that you have done all that you can, and focus on other things. You are in the competitive mix, and are in it, until you are told by USNA that you aren’t. At this point in the game, there are offers out there that are undecided. There are medicals trying to clear. Slates trying to be resolved. As these types of things work through, so do the list of competitive candidates, of which you are one. Absolutely no way to know if you will receive an appointment, no matter how one tries to figure it out. Hang in there!!

Check your portal once a week, but forego the daily/hourly ‘refresh’. Be present in these last celebratory moments if your K-12 career, with your classmates. Senior year is special. ESPECIALLY 2nd semester. Get excited about plan B. Get a sweatshirt, plan your dorm room. You won’t miss your appointment, should it come 🙂

I am currently in the exact same boat. Got a waiver, 2 nom, competitive scores, but my CFA has not been verified by admissions team yet (scores were fine, submitted in early Dec, 4 months later still waiting).

Just got to remember that 90% of the battle is waiting for it to start.
