My son just received an official CVW invite but no letter of acceptance or denial yet. Since it is so close to the deadline date we are having a hard time deciding if we should book his flight. If he is denied it would be torture for him to have to go knowing USNA is not in his future. Any recommendations?

This is a hard one.

In Jan my DS scheduled his WP overnight for late March. I asked in mid Feb if he would go if be didn't get a BFE beforehand. He said yes but that it would probably be hard not knowing if he would eventually get an appointment. Fortunately for him the BFE came beforehand.

So here are my thoughts; do with them what you want but understand I have no real wisdom here ...
1) contact your BGO and ask him to confirm it wasn't a mistake. He may have some advice too.
2) take it as a positive sign that maybe a BFE is on the way soon. Hard to beleive they would offer a CVW this late to just anyone.
3) Go and view it as an opportunity to confirm that USNA is where he wants to be - if not now, in the future. If he doesn't get an appointment this year the experience may give motivation to go through the process again next year. It is also an opportunity to confirm that if faced with a snap decision in May or June that he knows what he will decide without reservation.

Maybe one of the BGOs can give some better advice.

Good Luck and keep us posted

Honestly, I would take it positively. Don't get your hopes up too high though. Toward the beginning of March, I received MULTIPLE emails about CVWs that they invited me to attend. Unfortunately I couldn't attend any due to scheduling conflicts, but thankfully I attended NASS. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that on March 19th, I received my letter of appointment dated March 4th. So stay positive and good luck!

You may want to call your RD and discuss the situation. It's so close to the April 15 deadline that your RD should have a very good sense of where you stand.

The same thing happened to me this last week so I called my Admissions Counselor. He told me why I was offered a CVW so close to April 15.

I was put on the wait list so interpret that as you want to.
