Hello everyone. I am a sophomore contracted cadet on a three year federal scholarship. I have recently been diagnosed with kerataconus in only my left eye, a condition that is unwaiverable. This condition developed after I passed my dodmerb and became a contracted cadet. I have heard that a West Point Cadet was allowed to commission regardless of the condition and am not hearing of soldiers in the big Army being allowed to stay. I am still correctable to 20/20 in both eyes but cannot prove stabilization due to the CXL treatment being done only two months ago. Is anyone aware of how they handle this kind of case for Cadets in ROTC?

Since you're not on AD, your medical care is not covered by the Army and you will likely be disqualified if your condition does not meet medical standards (and won't by commissioning). Once you inform your cadre, they will put you on "Medical Recheck Status" while DoDMERB re-investigates your condition and qualifies/disqualifies you. If disqualified, you will likely be disenrolled. Please go talk to your cadre about your status/condition and see if they can make a case for you.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what happens in West Point/normal Army with regards to medical standards in ROTC. Since you're not AD, DoDMERB determines commissioning standards.

There are exceptions to every rule in the military, but I have to agree afrotc16.

Another misconception is "Hey, I know a pilot that has X."
Things that are disqualifying while a MID/Cadet or in flight school can become waiverable once you have your wings.

The have made a significant investment in your training. Things become "flexible."

I wish you luck!
