Lack of Information and Communication

Our DS was offered an appointment back in February. He quickly accepted. He was not sent an email that there was an appointment, no BFE either. He was called by several of the congressmen who nominated him... So I assume they received notice of his appointment. The only communication we have had is an email and a letter from medical to get the vaccine record turned in by 15April, which we did.

I pulled some old class of 2025 Logging In packet-so we have gotten him his passport and TWIC card already. But I guess my question is... Why the lack of communication. When will we start receiving information on when to buy and order his stuff from the NEX, Computer Pack, etc. Is this normal? TIA

Yes, this is normal for KP. You should get used to it to avoid years of frustration. For those of us who are planners, it is a difficult adjustment. Those who have accepted an appointment will receive more information which usually comes in early May. You are smart to look up last year's information because it changes very little from year to year. That's exactly what I did for my two kids, classes of 13 and 21. You are ahead of the game with the passport and TWIC. Make sure your plebe candidate is up to date in required vaccinations. The rest of what you will need to do before INDOC is pretty straightforward.

I agree with KPmom2013 in that you are ahead of the game with TWIC and Passport. The other potential stressor/deadline issue is with dental - specifically regarding wisdom teeth, so keep that in mind. It is a bit frustrating, but there is small comfort in knowing you are all in the same position. Things will come fast, so when it does just be ready to act. Also, (I hope this doesn't bother her, but) KPMom2013 is a great resource on this forum and appears always willing to help. My DS is a 2024, so we dealt with all the pre-Indoc stuff at the height of Covid and managed to get through. It's two years later and we, as parents, have yet to be on campus (except for a limited time at one football game in this last fall). We were not permitted on campus for the longest time but again, all has worked out. Welcome to the family!

I am happy to answer any questions I can on the forum or in private messages. Don't stress too much about wisdom teeth. Not required to deal with them until sea year. If your dentist foresees a problem with them, get them removed. If not, it is okay to wait if you want to. Our DS had no wisdom teeth. Our DD had hers removed during summer break before third class year. For those who missed Parents Weekend last year, you should go this year if possible. We went to PW our DD's third class year and had a great time.

DS actually has his wisdom teeth out when he was 13, so that is not an issue. He is also fully up to date on all vax, including that stupid COVID shot (sorry not a fan of that...but it is what it is).

I am glad to know this is not unusual. I will learn to roll with the punches. I'm not worried, RN, about not being on campus. I may later... But figured it would be so. We have tried to do a lot of reading and I know he will not need much as long as we order those packs from the NEX...but again, I assume instructions on how/when to do that will be forthcoming in May. I heard something about needing to start a security clearance, but I don't remember reading about that in the Logging In pack from 2025 class...I had just heard that yesterday from KP parent of 2025. Thank you again!

Information contained in the logging in books may change from year to year. If your son has accepted his appointment then I suggest you join the USMMA Class of 2026 Parents-KP Official facebook page. The NPA and class ambassadors hold zoom calls for the parents to provide much of the information you are looking for. While many of the people on the forum page may mean well, the most up to date and accurate information will come from this page.

We have done this... regarding the FB group. Thank you.

1) As you are learning, Facebook is considered an official form of communication for USMMA
2) It is not uncommon to receive communication that has "inconsistencies" like a reference to 2020 instead of 2022 - it was missed in the review process when they "updated" the instruction sheet.
3) The official website can be frustrating as there are dead pages, dead links, old dates, places with "<fill info here>"... and more
4) The National Parents Club does their best in sharing information outward and downstream to state parent groups. The line of "official" communication will generally flow from school leadership to mids followed quickly by a release from the Parents Club on Facebook - it is not email, and it is not on the USMMA website.
