I understand that if you drop NROTC before beginning your sophomore year, you do not have to repay your freshman year tuition. If you choose to drop after this deadline, will you then have to repay that freshman year? Or will it just be a repayment of all tuition received from the start of sophomore year onward.

Yes you repay the whole thing if you begin your second year (don’t drop before the deadline) and had a four year scholarship then drop before you commission. You can take a free freshman year and not owe back monies if the program isn’t for you. And, you said tuition but I’m assuming you owe back all monies including fees too which at some schools is significant.

In case it's not clear, if you drop after freshman year, you will also repay any scholarship money you received for freshman year as well as the following years.
