Late April decision release

DS received an email, in regards to a diff question, (but related), specifically stating, "most appointment decisions will go out by the end of April", so keep checking portal. So, take that for whatever it's worth. And remember, a rejection doesn't have to be a horrible thing. While not the preffered result, look at it as an opportunity to be better prepared for the Academy when you get there. You are all super young.
I keep telling my son, "you don't have to be in such a hurry". Enjoy your journey on this rock. 😉

COVID restrictions have hampered candidates worldwide. I think they key there, from my local experience, is: what did you do that you could do while under the restrictions? Some candidates did nothing at all. That's fine, if they were in an area that was almost completely locked down; it wasn't in their control. Others...

Is it more difficult for a candidate abroad to receive an appointment? I haven't seen any evidence of that in my time as an ALO. I've seen LOTS of candidates from all over the world receive appointments. The challenges are usually the nomination interviews and then the time difference for submitting things to USAFA or to respond to inquiries. Again, that being said; when I sat on my MOCs nomination board, we convened at odd hours to interview candidates for nomination from countries in Europe and Asia. The key is being flexible and proactive.

As for "leadership opportunities" the key is to be flexible and become involved in things that are available and interesting to you. The answers to questions, explanations of the challenges of being a student abroad, how he adapted and overcame those challenges to continue his quest. Those will be big ticket items. It might actually be an advantage if phrased well..."I had to adapt to XXX due to host nation laws. To continue my .....I....." That could have strength. Also, does he have any language skills? That can be emphasized as well as his ability to work in a culturally/ethnically diverse environment.

He should be like any other candidate.
Flexibility is the key to air power!

Today my son got an email from his senatorial office that said:

"At this point in time I would imagine all appointments have been offered. That said the only sure way to know is to contact the academies admissions office or their outreach liaison."

To which my amazing son, let them know that he did reach out to his ALO interviewer who told him "not having been notified is not a bad thing, as they are still giving out appointments and may continue so up into June when the class begins." He then told the senatorial aid that he is still holding onto hope for an appointment and thanked him for all of his help in the process, and closed by letting him know that if he does not attain an appointment this year, he will be back next year with an even stronger application.

View attachment 11893From their Admission Timeline- I think this is where the date is coming from.
Very interesting!!

Where is this from? It says "from their admission timeline..." but I don't find that in the Instructions to Candidates, in ANY of my ALO sources, etc...and I didn't find it on the USAFA/RR website. So I'd love to know where it's located to I can potentially validate and use it as a source document.

It is the USAFA class of 2026 application instructions (page 4):

This pretty much hits it on the head, but for us few college reapplicants, it's rather upsetting to see a second rejection coming. However, it hurts WAY less when you have an actual backup plan--last year, when I got my TWE, I had literally no backup plan, as I also got rejected from every single other school I applied to.

Personally, I'm convinced there's a grand conspiracy against me, with every admissions department of every university in on it. As of now, I cannot prove this, but it's only a matter of time 😂

I know dates are given out for reference on when TWEs may be sent out but I will post this as an example to never give up hope. DS (USNA 25) received his appointment for USNA Dec 23rd and received his USAFA appointment May 31st. Just goes to show how a qualified candidate can receive different feedback due to all kinds of uncontrollable factors. Some will get the BFE and others the TWE. Be happy to be in the fight as many do not qualify to even be in the running. I am amazed that there is so many young Americans that fit this criteria. I am proud of each and everyone of you. Don't forget there is many routes to commissioning. Best of luck to you all!
