Hi,
DS's field force rep wants him to retake his CFA. When is the latest day to do that for USMA? Is end of Jan too late? (He already took & passed at SLE, but DS told him he would.) Thanks!

End of January is fine. The admissions deadline is the end of February--but, if the goal is for him to retest and improve--then you don't want to wait. You want him to get his best scores in SOONEST so he can be considered more competitive for admissions. Is his entire application finished otherwise?

Does he have a 3Q letter or an LOA?
In general, I would knock this out when your kid feels confident--and when it will make a difference to his score. But sooner...you don't want to dwell on it.

Thanks! 3Q, LOE/no LOA, 2 MOC noms (competitive slates), 1 pres nom. He was focusing on improving SAT/ACT, grades, completing applications, etc. and, while he thinks he can improve some aspects of his score, he's concerned about "rocking the boat" and getting lower in others. Doesn't think it'll make too much of a difference right now, but a month of focused gym time should. And, he said he'd retake it. Since he's on competitive slates, am I correct in thinking those won't be "appointed" until after the Feb deadline?

I wouldn't wait until the last minute though. Leave some time to surmount glitches, sometimes known as Murphy's Law.

All of us feel differently about things here...I wouldn't make my kid retake the test if you are worried about the basketball throw. (More than a decade of combat--have never heard anyone say that the basketball throw was useful...) However, the run, the pull ups, modified sit ups, and push ups. A month of training--you should encourage/enable your kid to track his progress--could make a huge difference. Push ups, sit ups, and pull ups are habits.
