Letter of Assurance!!

Accordingly, on his portal next Required Actions it said "Medical Qualification." Tonight, the Required Actions changed to "None." Application Status still says "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA." Does this mean the waiver has been granted? DODMERB still says "Under Waiver Review." Any thoughts?/QUOTE]

Sounds like Mr. Mullen to the rescue again, but for all others lurking in the same position -- my advice hasn't change since joining the Forum. BE PATIENT ! Everyone wants instant gratification, and this is a situation where too much information creates angst and questions. Admissions has a process --in this case, once a waiver decision is made, that triggers an Admissions action, whether it be a TWE or in the case of granting a waiver when that is the last condition of the LOA, an Offer of Appointment. If the latter, that doesn't appear on your portal instantaneously --there are numerous threads here about how a notice of an Offer is made, and it can take a few days before the notice is made.

The bottom line, there is no need to analyze every change in your Portal -- Be patient, and you will find out, one way or another, soon enough.

Just got a letter of assurance to the class of 2024!

What does this mean in terms for the future? I know it’s not a guaranteed chance to get in, but I was wondering it anything (like GPA going slightly down) could revoke the LOA.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

You've already been given a lot of good information. I'll just add this: If you do not already have a nomination, make sure your nominating sources know that you have an LOA. Were your congressmen cc'd on the LOA letter? They probably were. They usually are. Nonetheless, I would make copies of the letter and send it to your congressmen just to make sure that it gets in your file and doesn't get lost in bureaucratic blizzard of correspondence that probably many congressmen are getting right now. If it comes from you - then it will likely end up in your nomination file. They need to know that you have an LOA.

Is it possible that DD wouldn’t get waiver( if approved) until after April 15th given current circumstances. I thought that was when everyone would know everything by. She got her LOA a while back and still waiting.

I believe history says it is possible. It must depend on the complexity and getting all required data processed. My DS didnt get his AMI dr appt completed until later in March. And with COVID, others may be similarly delayed.

Yes, I'm in the same boat so I reached out to admissions about a week ago and they told me it's possible I would hear back after April 15. But rest assured they are trying to get waiver decisions out as efficiently as possible given the circumstances.

Right...because don’t you have to let them know your intentions as to whether you intend to accept your appointment assuming you get one by May 1st? I am waiting on a waiver for a mild concussion that I was released from. I see on here where someone got a waiver this week for a concussion so that makes me feel hopeful. I guess patience is the key here.

They will provide additional time for those offered appointments after or near deadlines.

I have one last question to confirm. DD said when you have an LOA that BGO said it holds a spot in the class for you unless you don’t fulfill the condition( if there was one) then they take someone off the wait list. Is that true?

There are others that know better than me but presumably the wait list is to fill out the class if the declination rate exceeds Admissions' planning. The declination rate includes those with LOAs who do not fulfill their condition.

But an LOA does hold you a spot in the class doesn’t it. I am certain my DDs BGO told her it did. It makes sense because they give these out in the fall to several along with some in the spring who need medical waivers and I’m sure it goes down as part of their count of how many they have on the list of who they have said yes to. They know out of the number they said yes to what percentage typically will decline the offers each year.

There have been LOAs that don’t get offered appointments.

My son got his LOA in the fall before he took and failed the medical.

Tell me more..... may I ask what your son fails for?

He is colorblind. He luckily got the waiver. They didn’t know he was colorblind until a month after the LOA, which was issued as soon as he completed the CFA.

Your premise is off imo. There are LOAs reported through the years on this site that do not get noms or that are medically dq’ed that do not get the appointments.

Some LOAs may be used, perhaps, to hold a place for candidates they want that aren’t 3q. Not all.

Too often people try to look at some prior decisions and make it the policy. I don’t think it works like that.
