So, as the title suggests, letters will be sent out this week for those who were non-selects for Navy Option NROTC. I do not know if Marine Options will be notified of non select status, but it seems as though most have been notified if they were selected. I would recommend MO who have questions reach out to their ROO for their status.

There will be around 138 notifications going out, and there are still around 150 that are sitting in the alternate queue. This does not mean every alternate will be selected, but I would say it means if you were non-selected and proceed on to be a College Programmer, you have a very good chance at the 3 year sideload next year.

Without going into too much detail, I took a look at most of the scores for non-selects and a driving factor seems to be performance on the interview. It's hard to make a generalized comment about why that can be a factor, but I believe people tend to focus a LOT on extra-curricular activities but do not really prepare for the interview process. Just something to consider for those of you who are looking to apply for the next cycle which just opened up.

Thank you for the information. When my son logged into his netfocus account this morning, it prompts him to start a new application for next year. Does this essentially mean that he will be one of the 138 alternates who should get a non-select notification next week? Or, were all the netfocus accounts reset for everyone, including the 150 or so that are still in the game.

On another note, thank you for all the great information you've put out in the forums. My son and I eagerly looked forward to your posts throughout the process.

All of the accounts were reset. It happens every year and we can't seem to figure out how to prevent that. It's best to email the NSTC support email and ask for a current status.

Thank you. So I guess he’s still in the game. Keeping fingers crossed for him and the rest of the folks in the same boat.

Thank you for all of the updates! They are truly appreciated!

Are non-selected applicants given the opportunity to see their scores? My DS was pretty disappointed in his virtual interview, as the interviewer seemed distracted, was interrupted multiple times, and cut his answers short

Unfortunately, scores are not released to anyone.

He isn’t alone:) My DD was very nervous and thinks at one point she started speaking with a slight southern twang😂 (we are from the Midwest, so that wasn’t great!) I think all these kids are amazing and have great futures ahead regardless of how their future Naval career starts…college programmer; NROTC scholarship or the academy💙💛

I agree 100%! 👍 It has been an emotional journey for me (as the mom) but the longer we wait, the more excited I am about any potential outcomes! These kids have worked hard for the last 4 years, and their efforts will help them excel wherever they land. The future is bright!

So that means that only 12 people will not be selected? I am a bit confused

Also, what is a college programmer?

There were several hundred who have not received any notification. Basically, the 138 are going out to those who are not mathematically possible for selection this year. So there are more than 150 sitting in the queue who won't get letters yet. There are a lot of variables that go into how many alternates get selected, including which tier of major a person selected. It's best to wait a couple weeks and it will all settle out.

Okay, thanks for clearing this up. From what I understand there are 138 people who are not making some sort of cut off and the rest (150) are on the table to be selected? Most years do most of these people get selected? Sorry for the plethora of questions but I am running out of options and patience after submitting everything so early for USNA and NROTC and not hearing anything at all from either yet.
Also I selected tier 3 major, does that make this almost impossible for me?
Thanks.

How many are chosen from the alternate list each year depends on how many shift to other service branches or service academies. There delays this year due to DODMERB so it is dragging on longer than anyone would have wanted. As to your other question, selecting tier 3 does lessen the odds of selection.

My son said he had a similar interviewer. I think he was fairly prepared and practiced with his AD dad quite a bit 🤷🏼‍♀️. We haven’t heard anything.

A college programmer is someone who participates in NROTC without a scholarship. They apply to the unit at their college to do this, normally in the spring after being notified they did not receive a scholarship.

Thanks for the save! I was distracted grading papers and didn't read the question all the way. 🙂

One last question (hopefully), I said this earlier but no one gave me a solid answer:

I emailed the scholarship team about my application a couple weeks ago and they said that I was an alternate, but my portal does not reflect this.

Is this a problem? Or does the portal just not say anything for alternates?

I did not receive any email notifying me of this status either so I do not know how long I have been an alternate.

As someone who was an alternate myself, my portal did not say anything about being an alternate. I was eventually selected for scholarship and was sent an email informing me of my acceptence when that happened.
