In regards to letters of recommendation to the Air Force or Naval Academy, when sending them to the academy itself, should they be mailed to the assigned advisor of the candidate, or to the academy selection committee, or to another specific person or department? Should the candidate asked the recommendor to write the candidate number on the letter? At what point and time would the academy like to have these letters in hand?

If I remember right, USAFA gives you a fax number. You have to make sure that your information is on the letters. I think I remember Navy emailing my son's teachers and the submitted them that way.

I can only speak from what I remember for Air Force. I haven't gone through an application since the fall, so I'm trying to remember here. The teachers that you provide names on, you provide email addresses in the application process. The academy then sends them an email, with a web-link that they go onto and fill out a recommendation survey for the applicant. The rest of the application is done online. The only part of the application that requires manually sending anything to the academy, is from the high school. e.g. transcript, school profile, class ranking, etc.... Also, having your SAT/ACT scores sent in. Everything else is done online. And the online application process will open up towards the later part of June. best of luck. mike....

I am finding everything is done online too. For USNA, my son provided the email addresses for the people he needed to get recs from and they are specific people to Math, English and Coach. The USNA then contacts them. He already got an email stating his english teacher submitted hers.

letters of rec

Hi All,

I'm in the process of helping my DS through the overwhelming application process to AFA. He's contacted his ALO several times via email and they are to meet sometime in June. We've attended an academy conference hosted by our congressman and have apps for appointment underway with him and both of our senators.

My question is in regards to the letters of rec. DS has to get 3 letters of rec for the congressman and senators. Is it okay for these to be the same letters from the same 3 people? I'm going to assume so! Also, he will have to provide letters of rec to the Academy as well. Can those 3 people use the same letters they used to send to the congressman/senators? I hope so, I don't want to ask them to write four different letters.

Thanks everyone. This site is great for us new parents and candidates.

Acesmom,

I believe that they can be the same letters as long as they are addressed to the right people .

Because applicants cant view their online letters it is hard to see but I believe that my teachers/counselors sent the same letter to multiple academies/nomination sources. So there should be no problem with that.
