Letters

Yes, we were told early by previous parents not to address the letters to Plebe Candidates but to Candidate.

I had no idea that we were to address the letters to Candidate not Plebe Candidate as it states in the Logging in booklet  Here I was thinking I was being so careful to do everything right. I hope all the letters from back home addressed incorrectly were worth whatever the consequences were... :frown:

Yep, we got short ltrs from our ds during indoc. He didn't write after that, did't email unless it was a response to our questions and he did call when he was allowed/and or only had time. They are very busy. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but at Acceptance Wkend and during trimester breaks and holiday breaks, you'll want to balance asking questions about what they've been doing. I know it's hard to hold back the questions. You're trying to picture your dd/ds there. But for our ds, it was like shoptalk, not wanting to engage in it. Frustrating for us, but really it's about them returning to some normalcy. I gotta take my own advice, cuz right now ds is in flight to San Francisco and will be on his first ship in Yokohama Japan tomorrow! And guess what...i'm going to text him info I just found out from a Japanese neighbor..which years from now he might actually appreciate!

Mine is in 101 too and we got two letters this week...not many pics of them though...still

I am sorry for the families that have not received any letters. My son is in company 3 and he has sent 4 letters. He says they are up before sunrise to exercise, do drills and clean. They took a math placement test and are attending some classes. They went swimming and learned how to jump into the pool with survival gear on. It is very hot and humid but everyone is miserable so it does not matter too much. You have very little free time. The food is good. Day 5 seemed to be a turning point in the Physical Training department. But it was a lot more fun. They compete for drill company, Iron company and honor company. They have played ultimate frisbee, basketball and kickball. It is difficult but he is glad to be making friends. The physical training does not ever get any easier. But it is getting easier to get up so early. The facilities on the waterfront are impressive. He enjoyed the sailing.

Thank you to all the parents who have posted what their DS/DD have said. Brings me a bit closer to my DS.

Third letter arrived today. DS sounds great - very upbeat. Not surprised - he sounded wonderful on the phone last night. No hint of illness, depression, fatigue or any of those things a parent doesn't want to hear.

He said this is REALLY hard. But he knew that walking in the door and still wanted to do it. So good for him, makes a mother very proud.

Should I limit the letters to a certain length? I have been writing a letter a day and its been about two pages (big font, not front and back).

As a guy who has been a long way from home, you can't get too many letters.

Wow - another letter today. We have been pleased to hear how well DS seems to have adapted to life at KP but today's letter (#4) was the best yet.

He LOVES this whole lifestyle and is excited about absolutely everything. He says it's hard and the days are long but he loves everything about it.

We knew he was well suited to it and he entered after LOTS of research and visits to several service academies. He said it just felt "right" after his overnight visit and it was "right" in a way that the other academies and state maritime schools were not. Today's letter was proof that he had made the right choice.

It's all good.

I am so glad naviga8r, we don't hear from our DS so I am really happy to hear from other parents who have. Just waiting for our 5 min. phone call on Sunday.
