Liberty Time off

What kind of liberty or time off do plebes receive? Do they get routine time on weekends or just special occasions?
How does that change after recognition?

First tri don’t expect much in terms of liberty aside from parents weekend and MAYBE one or two Sunday libs or dinner libs as a reward for specific things. Second tri is most Sundays, but it’s inconsistent and you usually don’t know if you’re getting liberty or not until last second. Occasionally there’s overnight lib for holidays on long weekends if the class is doing well. I’m not too sure about third tri and post recognition.

Plebe liberty varies a lot from year to year and even from company to company. It is randomly granted and/or taken away for company performance, so even if you think you have liberty coming up, you can never count on it until after recognition.

If the football team wins or a visiting dignitary requests it, the Plebes are given a Saturday overnight liberty. Atleast when I was a plebe in the 80's.

Yes. Technically a week off (with leave) between trimesters but leave actually starts after the completion of the last final exam for each plebe/midshipman. So it can be longer than a week. My DS just headed back to KP this morning after 11 days off for spring break between 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Keep in mind though that if you DS/DD is an athlete, breaks take a back seat to team schedules.

It seems like the norm is to get sunday liberty, but not saturday evening liberty that used to happen more often. That doesn't leave much opportunity for socializing (what nearby college areas have anything going on sunday). They do get more breaks in between trimesters, when the place empties out. Things like mixers are long gone. The pandemic seems to have left a mark with more isolation.

Those first sentences made me so happy until I remembered he was in fact an athlete and will not get a fall break . Maybe it would be worth an extended visit to him.
