Is it possible that I get a letter of assurance and a congressional nomination (alternate) and still not receive an appointment?

I believe the answer to that is yes, if you are disqualified by DoDMERB and no waiver is granted.

"letters of assurance" are rare this year, and apparently reserved for outreach minority applicants and athletic recruits. But if you did receive an LOA, and you have also received a nomination and you are medically qualified, then you will receive an appointment as indicated in the letter. However, most candidates this year received a "letter of encouragement" which does not set aside an appointment for the recipient, and so it is possible to receive an LOE and not receive an appointment (ie, if you are in a congressional district that uses a competitive slate, and someone else ends up with a higher WCS).

Thanks for the quick response, it was a LoA, and I am medically qualified.
Do you guys know exactly what the 7th semester transcripts are btw?

If you are still in high school, it's your transcript, reflecting your final grades at the end of the first semester of your senior year (usually mid January). Oh and congrats on the LOA!!!

Thank you another13mom! This is why I am confused, my school is seperated into quarters, and the second one ends in January, so will the USMA ask for both quarters? Or just the first or second?

Our school has quarters too, with the 1st and 2nd quarter making up the 1st semester -- the grades at the end of the second quarter are the first semester grades. If your school doesn't differentiate, just send a transcript for the year through the end of the second quarter. That way WP will have everything and they can choose to disregard the first quarter if they want to.

It all makes sense to me now, this is my first time posting on this (or any forum!) and you have been soooo much help. Thank you a ton!!

Congratulations

USMA-2017- Congratulations on your LOA! The long gray line is getting closer!

Does anyone know if you have a LOE are the chances of not getting an appointment high? If they do not win their district won't they most likely be high on the national waiting list?
