HELLO! I have received what looks to be a LOA from the USAF tonight. I am surprised since my CFA and ALO interview are both pending. Anyone else experience this?

I know with the USNA a CFA is required before they will send a LOA. I also have contacted admissions several times on the lack of response for my ALO. This is so frustrating!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen “I’ve received an LOA” in the same post as “this is so frustrating.” 😉 You’ve received one of the so-called unicorns. Rejoice in that and don’t question the “why and how” of it. And don’t compare to a completely different SA.

Instead, be clear about the conditions for that LOA and get going on fulfilling them. If those conditions include the ALO interview, then perhaps this will knock down whatever barriers are there. If those conditions include the CFA, go get it done.

If you believe people here on SAF, many would practically kill for an LOA. Yet a few of those with an LOA don’t land the offer of appointment. So push on!

Concur with the other advice you have received.

Definitely not true about USNA LOAs. Nowhere is it published why or when or how many LOAs are given by any SA, as it is a discretionary class-building tool. No one here knows that, even the people who are long-time ALO or BGO or FFR or other SA-affiliation.

Don’t forget the majority of cadets and midshipmen never saw an LOA. You could also get an LOA from 1 SA and complete rejection from another; there will always be more outstanding candidates who are fully qualified with noms than there are seats in a class.

Do read your letter carefully to be sure it is not one that is simply encouraging you to finish your application because they think you have good potential, but a letter that clearly states if you complete A and B or some specific condition, they will offer you an appointment.

Not true

There have been USNA LOAs that were conditional on getting a nom and/or passing the CFA
Ok thank you—-this is what the admission team told me at my CVW last month.

yes I as incorrect. It’s a letter or interest apparently. I didn’t know these existed. I need to do my ALO interview but I can’t reach my person. I have been emailing for weeks and weeks and calling admissions. It’s been escalated but I still have heard nothing. Today the admission person said the ALO “isn’t important” and I just can’t believe that TBH.
