DS just got a C in AP Physics. He was .8% from a B and the teacher would not provide any opportunities to raise his grade 4th quarter due to fairness as not all students could access internet. Unfortunately he has the same teacher for AP Calculus next year. He still has a 4.0 and is #1 in his class. Is the C a deal breaker for the Academy? He is not allowed to repeat a course.

I got a C in high school chemistry and managed to get in, so I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker.
He just needs to focus on what he currently has control over, and that's getting the best grades he can next year.

+1 to valtroid. Also, don't let this affect his relationship with the teacher during Calculus. Calc is tough and no doubt he will need some help. He needs to stay on top of this. In any case I don't think a C in physics is a deal-breaker.

Agreed with the above - and I'm not so sure there won't be a little more leniency with at least part of an applicant's academic transcript as a result of the unique trials presented by COVID-19. All speculation on my part, of course. As long as he has done well in his courses overall, and has a strong showing in next year's classes, I wouldn't worry too much about the C.

So true. And we have learned that not all teachers can move smoothly from a classroom to online teaching especially in subjects like physics and calculus.

Thank you everyone for your responses. We are feeling a bit better about it. I appreciate the support.
