Can anyone help clarify what M and T days are at USAFA. I’ve tried looking them up, but have found very little information on them. Thank you.

First thing I looked up comes from USAFA " M-Days/T-Days alternating days of the academic week" it's block scheduling. So if your clas is on m day then it falls on Monday Wednesday Friday then next week when it switches to m day being on different day your classes will switch with it. Monday Wednesday Friday one week then Tuesday Thursday the next. Or something along these lines. You can look at the calendar to see which days

For those wondering I looked up " m days and t day usafa"

So it’s just different class schedules depending on the day of the week?

M, t, m, t,m is one week
T,m,t,mt is week two
Then back to m, t, m,t, m

Its to make sure you don't have seven class all in one day all at one time. College classes normally last for anywhere from 50 minutes to well over 90minutes. Even more for labs. Sooooo that's close to 7 hours worth of teaching each day. Easier to have three classes one day and three the next, then switch the next week to make sure each class is given the correct amount of time.

Also solves the " We had a parade and now lost a day of class issue" you only lose out on three classes ( at most) and still have time to do club activities.

I really wouldn't worry about it. USAFA will give us all the information we need.

Yup, just alternating academic days.

You might have calculus, history, and physics on M days, and English, comp sci, military strategic studies, and boxing on T days.

Think A and B days. There are roughly 80 days of academic instruction in a given semester. Each course you attend will have ~40 days of instruction. The academic calendar shows how they flow, but it is no different than a block schedule in High School. Your schedule is very predictable and not weird. On one day you have a set of classes (group A), and a different set of classes (group B) the following day - then repeat.

The confusing thing is the M/T naming convention. It is not Military classes on M-days and Training classes on T-days. It is not a class you go to on days starting with the letter M vs. class you go to on days starting with the letter T.

At the end of the semester you will go to each of your classes ~ 40 times. See this for an example:

I would add that the calendar presents them as M# and T#. The # represents the classroom instruction day -- as in, this is the 25th time you have been to this class. The syllabus will anchor an assignment or test to a class day - as in, the midterm is on T20 and you have a major grade due on T31. Understanding this will allow you to lay out your calendar to visualize the conflicts or periods of heavy workload. Inevitably, you will have an exam in one class and a major grade in another but a minor grade in yet another --- all on the same day. Knowing what is coming at you will help you triage and at times force you to make choices. Sometimes the minor grade will not get done because of competing priorities.

I am curious what happens for Doolies in the days between when BCT ends and classes begin? On the calendar I linked above, it says BCT ends August 3. What do they do the rest of August? Thanks in advance for any insight!

The first day of academic classes is August 8th (M1). The days between the end of BCT and the start of academic classes will be filled with briefs, meetings, equipment issue, and training.

It is a busy time with new found freedom of movement.
1) Move into your school year room
2) Get books
3) Learn your academic schedule
4) Get more uniforms back from tailor
5) Briefings to attend
6) Get your computer

And other similar tasks.

Ok, I have looked at the schedule and maybe I am completely missing it, when is A-Day? BCT ends on August 3 and first day of classes is August 8.

Trying to book flights and rooms as we have already done for I-Day and parents weekend.

Thank you.

I don’t know that the date for Acceptance Day has been released, yet. I remember some years when it was not announced until later in the year, but I honestly don’t know exactly when is a “normal” time.

Last year, the Acceptance Day Parade was held on the Friday of transition week (6 Aug 2021). If that held for this year, it would fall on Friday 5 Aug 2022. The wing is all in residence that week working on getting ready for the start of school. There is parade practice for the event held earlier in the week as well. It's a weird time as a freshman because the only upperclassmen you knew to that date were your BCT cadre and during this week, you are thrown into a much larger pool by joining your academic year squadron with a ton of new names to learn.
