DS #1 just tested positive. In his words "that's what I get for not getting vaccinated"
His wife (RN) had it last fall and is pregnant now. She has not been vaccinated.

DS #2 (respiratory therapist) had it 1 3/4 yrs ago before vaccines rolled out
His wife (radiology tech) never got it
Both were vaccinated as soon as vaccine was available to them.

The problem is that the FDA has not given the vaccinations its full approval. At this point, It's an emergency approval which I think cant be forced on the troops. I guess according to the article, Biden can make some sort of executive order. Personally, i think they should wait until the FDA approves Pfizer. From what I hear, it shouldn't be that much longer. I say this as a parent who pushed his AD Air Force pilot son to get it as soon as it came out.

Note that the Supreme Court ruled that the President could not order the Eviction Moratorium so the Administration switched gears and had the CDC order the Eviction Moratorium.
Rules/rulings are clearly not significant obstacles when COVID is in town.

Here's hoping for a quick recovery for your son and that his wife doesn't catch it from him.

NROTC mandated all rising 1/c to get the vaccine or not go on cruise. Since 1/C cruise is a requirement to commission, we all had to get it. Why was it ok for them to do that if the vaccine isn't mando for all service members? Not complaining at all, I was going to get it anyway, but just curious...

My DS, an active duty Army 1LT was vaccine optional too. His option if he were to not be vaccinated would have resulted in quarantine, be held back from deployment, and consequentially, likely held back from promotion. EVERY officer in his battalion got vaccinated.

It is not unlike being "voluntold."

BTW, he was intent on opting for the vaccine anyways.

the CDC ruling is also going to go away, but it will allow the moratorium another couple of months

A blanket mandate is unwise, there are variables involved and each member should be counseled accordingly. Recent Covid19 patients should be extremely cautious with the vaccine, especially pregnant women. Significant clotting issues have and are causing issues with those patients nationwide. A significant number of vaccinated pregnant women have miscarried and heart / lung issues with recent carriers of the live virus.

The military is the wrong career for anyone who is adverse to getting vaccinated.
You should meet the enlisted ranks and many officers, too. Ask @THParent and @Devil Doc what the vaccination rates in their DS’s commands are… far lower than you’d expect if things haven’t changed in the last few weeks.

I’m neutral. I got vaccinated so I could go on cruise and not have to wear a mask (LOL!).

Approved vaccines are mandatory and members of the military are required to get many over the course of their careers. As soon will be true with the COVID vaccine.

Can we just move all discussion of vaccines and Covid elsewhere.

It's so tiresome.

If you don't want it, don't get it. If it's mandated take it up with your chain of command, employer or whoever. Just take it somewhere else.

Or at least start a thread like the Bacon thread or the Dad Joke that clearly solicits posts about a certain theme. In this case it would be why you don't want to be vaccinated or you think Covid it fake.

Maybe just ask @Devil Doc, because my DS is just a Firstie this AC year. He hasn't commanded anything or anyone yet. :)
I can attest that my DS' entire Company is vaccinated (at least the 3/C, 2/C and 1C). 100%.

What's the source of your information? The following is from the Guardian. (I have put several passages in bold):

A record number of pregnant women were admitted to intensive care with Covid last month, data shows, as doctors raised concerns about vaccine hesitancy among expectant mothers and urged them to get jabbed as soon as possible.

Figures from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) showed that in England, Wales and Northern Ireland 66 pregnant women ended up in intensive care in July, the highest number since the pandemic began and three times as many as April last year. A total of 46 recently pregnant women were also admitted to critical care.

The numbers of expectant mothers in intensive care has risen steadily in recent months, from 17 in March to 22 in June but a spike in admissions occurred last month amid rising Covid cases and a loosening of restrictions. The mean age of admission is 32.

Dr Edward Morris, the president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said: “The number of pregnant women being admitted to ICU is worrying and reflects the rising prevalence of the virus in the UK that we saw in July.

“We have data of nearly 200,000 pregnant women receiving the vaccine with no safety concerns … We recommend that all pregnant women should get vaccinated against Covid-19, as the best way to protect themselves and their babies against severe illness and premature birth.”

The Royal College of Midwives said: “Pregnant women are at greater risk of serious illness if they get Covid … Getting the vaccine is the best way to keep you and your baby safe.”

Claudia Li, 30, a project engineer for Severn Trent Water, contracted Covid-19 after returning to work last month. She was left unconscious on a ventilator, with medics at Birmingham City hospital forced to urgently deliver the baby, who was not due for 16 more weeks.

Li is now urging women to get vaccinated. “Please, take the vaccine. I didn’t. Don’t risk yours and your baby’s life,” she told the Birmingham Mail, as she and her baby recover.

Scientists found that more than 99% of pregnant women admitted to hospital with Covid-19 are unvaccinated, with the Delta variant posing a greater risk of severe disease.

Researchers at Oxford University have described their findings as “concerning”, saying that one in 10 pregnant women admitted to hospital with symptoms of Covid-19 often require intensive care.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are recommended for pregnant women in the UK because these vaccines have been given to over 130,000 pregnant women in the US and the data has not raised any safety concerns.

Joeli Brearley, the founder of Pregnant Then Screwed, said the problem was that pregnant women were getting mixed messaging about whether to get inoculated. “Pregnant women have received confusing information from outset. Initially, they were told they were not allowed to get the vaccine as pregnant women were not included in clinical trials, so they had to wait until scientists collected enough real-world data to show it’s safe.

“Then the guidance changed to tell pregnant women they could get the vaccine if they wanted … only recently, in the last few weeks, NHS and the chief midwife said they strongly recommend pregnant women get it,” she added.

Hospitals are increasingly raising the issue of pregnant women in intensive care. Manchester health and care commissioning body recently tweeted: “We have seen higher rates of admissions to the intensive care unit among pregnant women after catching Covid-19”.

The chief executive of University Hospitals of North Midlands trust, Tracy Bullock, told a meeting of the trust board: “One of the other things we’re seeing which is of real concern is around pregnancy.

“We know that both locally and nationally there’s a very high rate of unvaccinated pregnant women. And we are seeing more pregnant patients in critical care than in previous surges. You can probably count on one hand the number we saw in previous surges.”

Actually I think this is exactly that thread: Vax in the title and dropped into Off Topic.
