March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

The basic page changed a few days agao. We all have this, unless you have been offered a scholarship. The line about the interview with PMS is where the new change will occur if you are offered a scholarship. Hope you and my DS get to see that one!!
Thanks so much OhioParent.... I'm trying not to become too anxious.. this is the day we've all been waiting for. I hope your DS gets it too

I already know what school I am going to regardless.. now it's just a matter of whether or not I will have to take out those ridiculous loans to pay for it... I've heard some talk about the SMP... anoyone know details on this?? Does it cover full tuition?

Thanks

So no status change = no scholarship?

I am so unlucky.

I don't know that is the case. I can't get anyone at CC to answer that question. Shouldn't be too hard to put a line in there saying "Sorry, try again later..."

It is still early, the posts will go up again tomorrow and until Clarkson gives the end game (when the physical letters are mailed) they could post updates at anytime(even Sunday nights according to a few parents...) so pace your refresh finger -- its gonna be a long day or 2.

levilogan - depending on which state you live in and how the Guard and Reserves are attached to your school -- it can vary what you may be eligible for with SMP. Contact your ROO or PMS and see what they know, they've been DS's life line to his options in Ohio and his #1 is where he's going, just a matter of how its getting paid for -- loans, SMP, scholarships he's already received(merit based) so I hope you're ready for the long couple of days ahead.

No status change here either. DS just left this afternoon on a cruise. I hope I have good news for him when he returns.

Don't give up just yet.

It took at least 3 days for all the awards to be posted for the last board.

This is just the beginning, they didn't start updating until mid day today.

It's close to the end of the business day at Ft. Knox, unless they are working late I would imagine there won't be much news the rest of the evening. I would expect things to light up come tomorrow morning considering they will have the whole day to post results.

Morgan, give it a few days, read the post from me just above... the fat lady is far from singing yet.

It will cost his college fund, but I know we've called a cruise ship at sea for an emergency(car accident..) and they got my friend to the phone. Also, does he have any computer access on the cruise? I've heard in certain ports they can access online...Just a thought. I could completely understand wanting to tell him in person.

I'm hanging in here in mississippi... I've gotta head to work in an hour so hopefully bussing tables will take my mind off of the matter as well as keep me from hitting refresh on the page every five minutes. Then again, maybe not. I have internet on my phone... Oh well. These are going to be some loooooooongg days ahead.

Do they do them individually, or do they update them groups at a time?

They are using social security numbers, so we understand, so it is individual at that point. No order, all random...everyone has looked for every conceiveable pattern and there truly isn't one. I know this is so difficult - sent my DS for a run when he got home. Maybe step away from the computer for a little bit and focus on something else(even horrible pop music blaring in your head from a MP3 might be good) Keep the faith.:thumb:

my kids laugh at me, I have a play list that includes Pink, Lady GaGA and Katy Perry I listen to when I'm stressing out. Guess what is playing right now....Just Dance.

I know he will not check his e-mail. He was ready to have fun. Plus I would really like to give him hopefully good news in person. He called me from the ship to let me know they were on and he has not been to his room but had already found the food. Typical teenager.

I'm happy for those who already got good news, and I realize that more status changes are likely to occur tomorrow, but this is seriously starting to suck...

Of course he found the food:yllol: Mine would have packed "snacks" in case they didn't have buffet ready soon enough:wink: Glad he getting away and having a blast before graduating. I have wanted to be the one to tell my DS in person too, so I completely get it. I pinned his Eagle medal on him and I would really like to see the look on his face IF he gets a scholarship. Some girl will get a lot of the other great moments there aren't many left for us moms to share with them. Hope you get to tell us since you know you'll be busting to tell someone if he gets the status change.

Understandable.... Hang in there. Many of us are in the same boat. I hope you hear soon.

Yep, on a scale of 1-10 this is 1,000 or higher for suckage. There will be worst waits in your lives, but this is gonna be a character builder no doubt:wink:

I am not at all optimistic. After having been turned down by the Marine Scholarship board, even though my DS was told "there is no way in h** you won't get it" by the district Marine folks; in addition to being told by an elected official from Washington that the number of white males receiving ROTC scholarships will be very minimal this year…… I am not at all optimistic. Although it would be great, we are moving forward as if the AROTC scholarship will not happen either.

My DS busted his tail to earn it, and his credentials for scholarship are far - far above the min requirements. However, he was told that no matter how well you did, you can’t change your gender or race…..

I am going to have to agree with GoinBroke on this subject. It is very unfortuante that so many kids tried so hard, but no matter what, will never meet the requirement of minority.

We do not believe that ROTC is minority/affirmative action based for any group. Guess someone will come along with more information(Gojack is amazing at finding links to military studies and reports).

I want to add to this. After a year of going through the application process and now having DD as a freshman ROTC cadet I have seen no evidence that ROTC has any "affirmative action" preferences.

What was his stats? Just curious what the competition was like....haven't heard anything yet.

received email at 16:46 Eastern time from ROO at our State Flagship, congratulating DD for a 4 yr. scholarship.
