March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Well, off to work. No change here with EH as first letters last name.

Paradoxer, my thoughts are with you and yours. I know you will all be okay no matter what, but I do wish the scholarship could help your family!!!

to my DS, who will be on here shortly, Mom will be with you no matter what - now and always. Come to work if you need me - the ladies will understand.

I just found this board. My son received word that he was awarded a 4 year type 7 AFROTC scholarship. We haven't received the paperwork in the mail though, so I am still a little nervous! He had to apply for a medical waiver because of an allergy. Anyone had luck with the waiver process?

Hello Rupper!

There are other threads on the first page devoted to AFROTC things... this thread is only for the March 8 Army ROTC decisions.

I think people who post on the AFROTC threads will be able to help you.

Thanks, everyone, for your support and congrats! Just found out that he was awarded 4 year scholarship to his number #1 school choice, so he will be going to Univ of South Carolina (I agree with Pima - a GAMECOCK?!), so our waiting is over...no requesting a transfer for us. YAHOO! It's party time! PLUS, it's after noon here on the east coast, so I don't have to drink in the morning! :shake:

Which rotc will your son be doing ?
Mine got his USNA TWE beginning of the week but nothing at all on nrotc stuff?
He's sent in his USC stuff and is going no matter what either way.

Make sure to check out the DODMERB formun in SA. A lot of the waiver and remedial issues are discussed there. Larry Mullen from DODMERB is a wonderful asset. You will see his email posted there. He helped us and many others with waiver/DQ issues.

Hoping you get great news before you go.

Today is the day my daughter should find out if the budget will allow her to keep her teaching job so I'm nail biting along with you.

My fingers are crossed for her...good luck!

Three-year scholarship to #1 choice school seems better to me than zero-year to no school! Although no one in our family is from South Carolina, my husband graduated from USC back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. He is a diehard fan, however I have also always had trouble with the Gamecocks name! We were at the USC bookstore a few weeks ago (because my son has also been accepted there, but is still undecided), and there were t-shirts that said "Go Cocks!" I just couldn't see my son or husband wearing one of those around town where we live. Luckily, the store also had really nice logo shirts with palm trees (and no ugly red bird) on them that just said "University of South Carolina." That is what we bought!

I am really praying that Ohio2015Parent gets good news. You are very dedicated and patient. Your family deserves to celebrate with the others who have already gotten scholarships.

2010...2,579 AROTC Scholarships
(press release said 2,579 four yr scholarships, no mention of other flavors)

2011
1st Board was about 400 offered scholarships
(about 23 on this board reported offers)

2nd Board was about 800 offered scholarships
(about 30 on this board reported offers)

3rd Board...I'm guessing 1000-1200 offered scholarships
(9 offers posted on the board so far?)

I don't think 2011 offers will come anywhere near the number of 2010 offers, gojack. Navy ROTC dropped from about 2,800 actual in 2010 to 1920 Budgeted for 2011 (I'm going by memory on that).

I would assume Army will see a 20%-30% difference for the entire year as well, which if true would bring it down to the 1900 number as well, but that is pure speculation....

So you are estimating 3rd board at about 800?
nice symmetry, I guess that would not surprise me.
I was initially thinking more 3yrs, less 4yrs,
less dollars but total numbers just a little less.

BTW: Past boards posted over the weekend

So I went off and did the following:

1. load of laundry
2. Filed taxes
3. Ate lunch
4. Ran to middle school to give son eye drops
5. Printed info for weekend college visit
6. Returned here to see some are hearing results today
7. Went to status check
8. Son received scholarship! :thumb::cool::smile:

WHOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!:yay:

I don't know the details of the 3 year - we will be meeting with the ROO at South Carolina next Tuesday when DS is on spring break so I am sure we will find out more then...and yes, it's an amazing opportunity. He was planning to go and join ROTC even if he did not get a scholarship, so even 3 years is a blessing. It just took a little bit of wind out of our sails. Still much to be thankful for!

First, congratulations to your son, it has been a long wait.

The 3 year AD Scholarship has all the same benefits of a 4 year, it just starts day one of their Sophomore year.

There are a few requirements that have to be met the first year:

Maintain a min. 2.0 cumulative School GPA
Maintain at least the min. required credits to be a full time student.
Maintain a 3.0 GPA in all MS Classes
Enroll in all MS classes and don't miss class
Pass the PT Test. Do this as early as possible and stay within the standards all year. This is a big one.
Be fully active in ROTC activities
Stay medically qualified. Don't worry about sprained ankles or minor injuries, only major things.
Stay out of trouble. No MIP's or MIC's, Traffic tickets above a $250.00 fine, or any other legal issues.
Get the recommendation of the PMS. If he follows all the above the recommendation should not be an issue.

Once he starts his Sophomore year he will receive the tuition, book money and stipend. He will also sign the contract at that time and the Army will now, for a lack of a better term, own him. Again starting the Sophomore year he will have all the benefits of every scholarship cadet including the opportunity for summer schools such as Airborne, Air Assult, and others.

Have a great trip to the school and again congratulations.

He's sent in his USC stuff and is going no matter what either way.

As of now, he will be Army. However, he will FINALLY be boarded the last Navy board, so we are waiting to see how that goes. When we visit next week he will meet with both services to see where he thinks he will fit in best. His objective is to serve his country in whatever capacity works best for him and the service.

As I said before, we have much to be thankful for, it was just a slight let down after first being told it was a 4 year. And that is only because our DD is starting grad school this fall and DS (God bless him!) told her that whatever money is in his college account that we don't have to spend on him, he will give to her to lessen her grad school loans...so things were really looking up for her as well!

I also don't like the mascot, but what can I say? It is what it is and as long as he's happy, Momma's happy.

I have not yet recieved a DoDMERB letter, is that a bad thing? Im on pins and needles like everyone else on this thread about the scholarship notifications!

I really hope they aren't doing the notifications by alphabet because my last name starts with a C and its almost been a day already! nervous!

Also, congrats to all who have recieved scholarships already!

If you DON'T get an offer what would the status say? Does it change from what it has been recently to something different?
