SA candidates for the classes of 2025 are enduring their own form of “March Madness” waiting appointment news. Now, who are your picks in the NCAA B-ball tournament? A couple of years ago I had Kansas in the final four only to see them leave very early. Talk about a bracket buster. Another time, in a rush, I filled out my bracket in Greece. I picked SDSU (San Diego State University) to go deep into the tourney. Later my son told me SDSU stood for South Dakota State University-ugh. No surprise, South Dakota left in the first round. This year, I’m taking out the darts (No Duke? No Kentucky?). Signs of normal are starting to return, I can feel it. So, here’s to upcoming spring and March Madness!

Good luck to those waiting appointment news and good luck with your bracket(s) .

I LOVE March Madness! It is my favorite time of the year. I have learned though that I'm not very good at picking brackets and I tend to root against a few teams instead of cheering for others I like.

With that being said, Go Illini! (and I'm not from there, but my UNC boys ain't gonna do it.) And I'd love to see someone take out the Zags and the Cavaliers early! Just not a fan.

In DS' time at U of M, the football team has done nothing to speak of. Basketball has come in 2nd in the NCAA tournament; baseball has come in 2nd; hockey lost in the national semifinals once. Fingers crossed that this could be the year for a championship before he graduates next month.

I have 3 brackets with three different winners, but I expect 'Nova will go all the way.

My favorite Final Four (capitalized!) story is from a period nearly lost in time, before the advent of the internet or even all the games being on TV. It was 1985, Villanova was facing Georgetown in the Championship and I was in college, indifferent to basketball. It was actually the week before Easter and most of the campus had cleared out a day or two early, but the track team had to stay so we were sitting around Sean's room killing time by mocking his draw in the pool. He had 'Nova and they were staring up at John Thompson's juggernaut from a great hole, huge underdogs facing the undisputed top dogs. Needless to say it was low scoring, the Wildcats stayed outside and shot an NCAA-record 78% from the field (only missed one second half shot) and snuck away with a 66-64 win. We were alone with $300 in a college town where pitchers were cheap and it was only three hours to closing time. The rest is left up to the imagination, but it was gloriously irresponsible.
