Hey,

Not sure if anyone's gonna read this but, I'm looking at getting into the airforce academy. I have a 3.65 GPA, I am a marching band drum major (which is a leadership position), and a member of the NHS. I think I have a decent shot at getting in, except for one thing... is marching band counted as a sport or activity? Because I want to be well rounded, as in having a good balance between community service, academics, leadership, and sports, and rn the only thing I'm worried about is my sports.

Thank you

hey also , what do you think my overall chances are like?
uhhhh I can't PM you here since you don't have enough points, but if you have a discord you could friend me and I could talk to you about it? my username is almondqqq#4841

My DS was extremely involved in music including Drum Major. He held about every leadership position you can in music, that should be your focus. His only varsity sport was swimming and club water polo. USAFA doesn't have a cadet band, exactly, but they do have Drum and Bugle corps. They travel with the football team. My DS converted from saxophone to tuba. They welcome musicians!

I’m also a Drum Major in my schools band aswell! If you’re looking to replace a varsity sport with band/fine arts make sure you’re really showing your leadership ability as well as musical ability. For example, I’ve created a new position within my program to help get sophomores more involved, but I’m also first chair in the state.

My DS was Drum Major too and played trombone in the highest level band. But he was also a captain on the wrestling team, 4.5 grade point average, summer camp counselor, 1470 SAT, food bank volunteer, 3rd degree black belt. My own opinion is you'd need to boost up the grades, study for the SAT, and do a sport or two. You can show that once you put your mind to it, you did what it took to get in. My DS also applied for AFROTC in case he didn't make it in. He just joined the Drum & Bugle core after finding his "band people".

I know there are quite a few former Drum Majors at USNA. It's not considered a sport, but it definitely counts as a leadership position.
