MC/AC-130 Pilot--How to drop/get picked up?

Any current/former AC/MC-130 pilots out there? I am curious to know how you dropped that aircraft. Did you go slicks and then get a phone call from AFSOC or drop it straight out of UPT/ENJJPT?
