Medical Disqualification

Just narrowed down your location with that quote! ;)

NoVA, Howard County, or Montgomery County. Top 5 richest counties in the country are in this region. Gotta love Government civil servants and contractors!!
I just looked at a Wiki list; I was struck by the same thing. When I was a kid, public sector employees had better benefit's and more job security; you made more money and had better career growth in the private sector. Not so these days; if you read past the top 5 the DC metro area continues to be disproportionately represented. To an Econ guy, it's disturbing to see those who “distribute wealth” doing better than those who "create wealth".

I’m in Montgomery County PA and I have been sitting on a Med DQ since early January with no word back. Heard from another candidate in an interview waiting room that our rep has 2 spots this year but that could just be a rumor. The panel interviewing me was extremely impressed by my resume coming from an elite boarding school (also a foundation school) they rarely get local applicants from and basically said to my face why do want to go to a service academy over a top tier civ school. Hoping to see AMI requested in my DODMERB soon but have a solid plane B lined up with Villanova Engineering. Continuing to hurry up and wait. The academy and becoming a Naval Officer have been my intense focus for the past two years but I'm trying to practice some stoicism in this last month and remind myself that worry or not I will know by April 15th. My experience for anyone in a similar situation to me.

Just did some forum searching and found out that someone from my district is sitting on appointments to USMA+USNA and is undecided between the two so that certainly doesn't take away from my stress. Here's to keeping a cool head and hoping for the best!

More than one person from a district can recieve appointments.

Oh crap! New list has a bunch of California stuff on there! Damn, the top 5 used to be dominated by DC suburbs.

And my county is down to #7, when it used to be #3. :(

For the candidates hoping a waiver / review may commence for your DQ, have you researched how waiverable/ non-waiverable your DQ generally is (it is a case by case basis, but...) ? Are there examples where other candidates with that condition were waived? The more you know. As others said, continue to line up your Plans B, C, D.

I agree that it's a calling to commission and serve, not a "free" education that is the reason why many wish to attend a Service Academy or train via ROTC. While education costs and inflation are daunting, if you do the math, someone working part time during school/ full time in summers and going to a four year community college can come out with very little to no debt. People qualified enough to get a SA appt also often have lucrative merit/ award based scholarships too that make undergrad much more affordable at many, though not all colleges.

My DS is in his dream job in serving an officer - he'll get through multiple delays (backlog), the rest of flight school, then serve at least 8 years to satisfy his service commitment, at a minimum. HIs choice all good, but, I wouldn't exactly call his "Free" undergrad education "free"

I'm DQ'ed for concussion. I haven't done too much research, but seeing as 90% of Mids were in varsity athletics, I'm hoping concussion waivers are a dime a dozen
